Spain is probably the top on the 2nd tier, but this Team USA is staaaaaaaacked, IMO. Lebron is playing out of his mind, and Durant is also something else. They are carrying some old baggage like Kobe, but I don't think he'll be enough to kill their chances completely(*)...

(*) Provided he doesn't take 30+ shots in a game...

I agree with your categorizing of the teams in terms of tier. Had Rubio been playing, I'd probably move Spain up a bit...but that ain't the case

I think teams in these games rank as follow:

    1st tier: Team USA
2nd tier: Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil, a dark horse team (ie: Russia)
    3rd tier: everyone else

Given there's only 3 medals, and games are played every other day, it should be fun to watch.
Spain is certainly not on the same tier than France, Argentina and Brazil tbh

    it is

    1. USA

    2. Spain

    3. the rest

Don't know about that... I think they have the potential to be on a tier of their own, but their last Worlds wasn't anything to write home about... tbh, I don't recall if Pau played that one...

pau didn't play back in the 2010 WC, if that's what you're wondering.

Spain is much better than any other team, not named USA.
And could win the gold, maybe.
Tbh, Spain has become a sports superpower.

I saw the game France Brazil, these two teams are close. Maybe Argentina is a step ahead but globally Spain is his own tier.

Spain has some serious advantage downlow against the US (specially if coach-K keeps playing that re ed Paul, Kobe, Durant, Melo, Lebron line-up).

If them shots don't go in, watchout.

If coach K doesn't react accordingly matchup wise, it could very well be the United States' first loss since losing back in 2006.

Spain is definitely in position to upset USA. They're not as athletic, sure, but their presence in the low post is an undeniable advantage.

They have to duplicate their 2008 Gold medal game performance from the perimeter to have a chance, which they surely can.

Spain is one of the few teams in contention that can control the tempo of the game. Brazil is the other team that was able to do that vs the United States. Argentina surprisingly was able to do that with Prigioni's composure and ability to setup the Argentinian offensive sets.

I have to add: if teams are able to control the tempo of the game and make timely shots... they have a chance at the end. It really depends on how long teams can control the tempo, we all know too well to expect a Team USA surge in a number of stretches, it's all about controlling the game and doing the most possible offensively outside of those US runs.

I'm sure Spain is crossing their fingers that USA gives Westbrick big minutes.

    Him and Melo.

Melo is gonna get destroyed trying to guard either one of the Gasols.
