So much for the idea that international teams don't play to win the game.
I expect the same thing from Spain come Tuesday.
Boxscore and quotes up at usabasketball.com...
Deron Williams
No one said the gold medal would be easy, right?
No, no. There are good teams out there. We know that. We don’t overlook any opponent and we feel like that there are lot of tough teams that if we don’t come to play, if we don’t play up to our level, they can beat us. Argentina is one of them, Spain is one of them, Brazil is one of them. These are three of the best warmup games you could probably ask for against those three tough teams.
lol France![]()
Didnt Croatia & Lithuania, which finished Silver & Bronze, Have some?

Williams speaking the truth even if I don't think Argentina and Brazil have a shot neither tbh
All of this. You can take Kobe, but I'll take Manu and win more games over more years.
Croatia: Petrovic,Vrankovic,Kukoc,Radja and Tabak played in the NBA... but in 1992 only Petrovic and Vrankovic were playing in the NBA.
Lituania: Sabonis,Marciulionis played in the NBA......In 1992 only Marciulionis was in the NBA but Sabonis was much better player than he was when he came to the NBA ..... In 1992 he was better player than Scola,Prigioni,Delfino and surely Manu are today. Surely better than any player from Spain National Team too.
Same Petrovic tbh.
With or without NBA players in the rest of the teams 1992 Dream Team was much better than 2012 Dreaming Team is.
Argentina at best is two steps behind Spain.
Spain would win 9 of 10 if they play 7 games series. But only one game? Of course Argentina could beat Spain.
I'd love to see USA get their asses handed to them.
Damn...I wished I could've seen the game. Is it true team USA were being The Ugly Americans during the game? That's what I heard. Were those jerkoffs at least respectful towards Argentina after the game?
this usa team sucks to only beat these has been by 6 pathetic
Replay about to start on ESPN2 and ESPN3 online...
As far as ugly americans, I don't think so... both teams put some nasty in it...
Two steps? That's a stretch. One step better, sure.
So according to your logic, in a seven game series, Spain would sweep Argentina?
You're just being biased, but I understand that.
That has the potential to happen on Tuesday tbh.
There's no 7 game series in internationall ball... A bad day and you could be out of the compe ion... that can be both a plus and a curse...
Thanks for the heads up, man.
tbh, Spain is at a great moment generation-wise... they were never this good. Neither was Argentina until the "golder generation"... more or less all teams that reach this stage are pretty good...
Teams like Greece.... not so much
The poster I responded presented up a hypothetical matchup between Spain and Argentina in a seven game series. I think Spain would win in 6. According to the poster's logic, it would be a sweep.
What do you think if it was a 7 game series?
Right now, they're better. Don't know sweep, but they definitely win.... 6-7 years ago, ARG sweeps them... it's all pointless anyways, because there are no 7 games series. It's like hypothesizing if Marbury is a good player does Team USA wins gold in 2004... Marbury was never good, so it's a waste of time.
Yeah totally agree with you there, but the spanish homer is overrating his team when Arg is not as far behind as he's putting then out to be. If I was to rate the teams in contention through a 0-100 rating.
I'd put:
team USA-97
Spain-89
Argentina-85
Brazil-84
France-81
Russia-80
Everyone else- < 80
Spainfan should be proud, tbh... it's hard to be that good, and much like ARG, it's likely not really sustainable...
Tbh I think he's just pissed off and jealous because his country hasn't rang gold in a generation of excellent Spain teams.
by the way what's up with the Argentina guards both having twins (Manu and Delfino)? That's crazy. You can almost form a future team there.
