Spurs have done more with less.

On first impression, when they first signed, Parker, Ginobili, Neal, Green, Jackson, Mills, Splitter, were all unknowns. Diaw was labeled as a lost cause, Blair was a no cause (with no ACLs), and Bonner was known mainly for using public transportation.

I'm not predicting Curry will make the team, and I certainly am not saying he will make the team better if he does get a roster spot. All I'm saying is, when a man lazy enough to balloon to 400 lbs while making millions to do essentially anything but just that, and then loses quarter of his body weight while hoping some (any) team accepts this as an apology... well, clearly the guy has something to prove.

Just like Parker, Ginobili, Green, Jackson, Splitter, Mills, Diaw, Blair, and Bonner when the Spurs signed them too.

Damn man, that's just sad to hear that Odom was the best opposition you saw live. I'd have to go with Jordan or Bird tbh.... or maybe Olajuwon.
Wow, very nice! I wish I'd seen those guys... I'm currently watching 1991 Finals - I'd forgotten how awesome the NBA used to be!

Odom really impressed me, although the best opposition I saw must've been Shaq and Kobe. I just remember being impressed with the way Odom seemed to do everything well, and especially the way he handled the ball in the open court at his size.

Well, everything but pick a wife. At least he handled the Dallas trade about as well as I could have ever hoped for though.

Timmy said he was full of potential . That is encouraging, hopefully that translates into a great training camp. Im in the Curry bandwagon

It's a HUGE red flag if you're still talking about potential when a player has been in the league for 11 years. There is no potential at that point. He is what he is. Timmy was just being polite. The light bulb is not suddenly going to go off for Curry. He's a lazy . He's always been a lazy . He will always BE a lazy . If he makes the 15 man roster, we're in serious trouble because several injuries to current roster big men would have to happen in that event.

Yeah. Who'd marry into that family of plastic people?

He should never have played ball last year after witnessing two people die in the space of a week. Sounded like he was clinically depressed to me. Wonder what he'll do in Clipperland this season?

We got our Mexican food to protect. Eddy Curry comes to town and it's amazing the Spurs fans who come out of the woodwork. Basketball prognosis accuracy be damned -- one photograph of Curry renting out Blanco Cafe and it's on! No wonder we cross our fingers he doesn't make the team.

Curry will be a huge defensive liability and won't rebound for . He's also a black hole.

His "potential" is that he'd eventually maybe learn to play defense. This is people were saying 10 years ago. It hasn't happened. You stop being a prospect and start being a suspect after you don't improve at all for 3-5 years. It's been 10 folks. There's no potential but to hope he does a fraction of what he used to 8 years ago, and will be the C version of Gary Neal. Scores, does nothing else.

    Its a 13 man roster.
    Parker, Mills
    Green, Manu
    Kawhi, Jax
    Diaw, Blair
    Duncan, Splitter

thats roughly our top 10 who are pretty much going to make the roster without a shadow of a doubt. the spurs wouldn't have resigned mills if that wasn't their intention. candidates for the remaining 3 spots include: Neal (who i'm pretty sure will make it), De Colo, Joseph, Bonner, Brown, Curry.

Heck, lets call Neal a lock to make the roster he's been one of our best bench scorers for 2 years and Pop loves knockdown shooters with hustle. So its 2 spots that will be split between De Colo, Joseph, Brown, Bonner, and Curry. I'd imagine one of the guards make it (they didn't drag De Colo across the atlantic to play D-League), and one of the bigs make it. Bonner has about 3 million guaranteed. Smart money says Bonner makes it on that fact alone.
Bonner's making it. Sucks in the playoffs. . .but he's actually kinda decent in the regular season.

Joseph is a D leaguer. Brown's a D Leaguer. De Colo. . .I don't know. Probably D league then gets called up. Mills should be there. Neal will be there.

Chance Neal gets traded due to Mills basically being the same thing but more versetile. Blair may also end up getting traded. Same with Jackson.

Tbh I don't see Curry being any more than 15th man and garbage minutes in blowouts, and at best emergency fill in if Splitter or Blair blows a knee out. Will not get any real time if the other bigs are all healthy.

I'm guessing Curry's best skill at this point is committing 6 hard fouls on elite opposition bigs, but we shall see.

Worth it since he's a big body, especially against someone like Dwight..

Curry would be a traffic cone for Dwightmare to easily go around. I'm not sure he's even quick enough to TAKE an intentional foul on DH.

Personally, I'm all for this move.

Low risk, high reward. If he sucks in camp, he walks with nothing lost.

However, perhaps I'm being overly optimistic, but if there is one team that can provide stability and structure for a lost case like Curry, it's the Spurs. As long as he still has his legs (which he should at age 29-30) and is in halfway decent shape (looks better than he did in his days in New York), then he could be the big man the Spurs need.

Will he be the savior? No. But he will be a big body in the paint that can score, and at least intimidate as a defender, even if he isn't known for his defense. Like many have said before, "you can't teach big", and Curry is the biggest guy in camp.

Maybe I'm just in desperation mode for a big at this point, but I really hope Curry works out for the Spurs.
This. Curry is no scrub and if he can play motivated he will be leaps and bounds above the turd towers and splitter in terms of size and physicality. The spurs need more nasty at this point and this guy has loads of it to be tapped into. If this guy works hard he is well worth the gamble. I can see this board crying when we get but raped in the post come playoff time because were to damn small. If we couldnt get blatche im alright with this.

Disagree. Maybe Tim is talking potential in terms of actually doing something for this pathetic frontline in terms of physicality. While you cant compare him directly to Diaw they both were lazy and on horrible teams (except miami). The chance of winning or rather contributing to a winning team might just spark this sleeping giant.

Anyone with completely guaranteed money is making the squad. Jerry Buss does NOT own this team. At worst, they're trade bait. There will be no roster cuts from this list.

    Duncan, Splitter
    Diaw, Bonner
    Kawhi, Jack
    Manu, Green, DeColo
    Tony, Mills, Joseph

That's twelve guys. Everyone else, Brown, Curry, Blair, Neal, Wilkerson, Collins,Powell is unguaranteed and competing for up to, but not necessarily, three roster spots.

I think Curry might be useful just for being able to play a few minutes and get us some low post scoring. More versatility never hurts.

This. (Although that doesn't guarantee they'll make the 13 man active roster.) And Neal and Blair have too much value to simply be dropped. At worst, they'll be traded for a 2nd rounder.

no, DJB has very little value, as we saw in the playoffs.

You don't drop Blair for nothing. It's my belief that the Spurs were asking for a bit too much when they were shopping him. Some team out there would certainly give a 2nd round pick for him.

Hmm. It could be a nice "feel good" story if he did come back and prove everyone wrong. The Spurs would benefit greatly in such a case.

I really wonder what his value is. His contract is pennies. He will walk at the end of the year- so you are essentially giving up a 2nd rounder for 1 year rent. Given his shortcomings, both figuratively and literally, I suspect their is not much interest.
Best- I think would be as a sweetener in a multi-player deal.

It would be great- however, I'm having a hard time coming up with a similar story in the past.
High lottery pick- who squandered his ability due to laziness that then redeem himself at age 29-30.
    Anyone think of one

I am excited to have another big man to drop it off too. Duncan is still pretty damn good on the block, but Splitter is not really capable of just posting up and scoring. If Curry turns out to be decent this would be a nice addition to our bench game.
