I hope the Spurs don't give up 100 points tonight
That would be almost impossible at this point.

Nets only have 55 points with 8 minutes and 30 seconds to play.

Thwy would have to score 45 for that and ain't no way that's ever going to happen.

Respectfully, I disagree. Tony is never going to be a defensive powerhouse. He doesn't have the athleticism of a Ginobili or Leonard. He is not as good a passer as Ginobili, not does he have Ginobili's court vision. But he runs this offense better BY FAR than anyone else on this team, and better than anyone I have seen in watching around 82 games per year since 1993.
I don't think Parker is lacking anything. His defense is fine, especially when it counts. He's also made some fantastic passes, and he's a great scorer. I am not a Parker-hater by any means.

But it feels like Parker keeps ignoring open shooters in order to shoot long twos or go for contested layups. When it works, Parker looks like an MVP candidate. When it doesn't the Spurs look awful. I think the offense (not in general, but the current tweaks made to it) was designed for Parker to carry the load that Duncan wasn't expected to be able to carry anymore. It's different now; the Spurs can play a better balance between PnR and post-ups. I am not so much blaming Parker, as I assume he's doing what Pop wants. But I am questioning Pop's desire right now.

Ok, something is really wrong with Blair.

Might have to do with having no ACL's.

Blair is done. And the Spurs were asking for a 1st round pick for him during the draft? Seriously?

I can't believe that people were arguing about Blair in the starting lineup...
Spurs look so much better now, always start strong= more blowouts= Big 3 play less

I'd rather play Kahwi than S-Jax in this lineup, so he can learn to be the primary scoring option.

Well, that was my thought all along, that one thing you can be absolutely sure of is that Parker is playing the offense that Pop wants played, so if your concern is with the play calling, why not say that?

Earlier in the year Parker was criticized for not being aggressive enough, including by Pop. Remember when Pop famously asked him "Are you planning to shoot any time this season? Now, Parker is doing what Pop wants, i.e., driving the lane and getting the defense accustomed to collapsing on him or coming out to meet his tear drop. Then other shooters are freed up and more open. That is what Pop wants. If TP's shot is not falling Pop doesn't change his game plan... , Pop NEVER changes his game plan, but TP is still supposed to be opening things up for his other teammates. Remember that Manu was out for a lot and then Leonard was out seemingly forever, so it was only Tim and Tony and occasionally Green and occasionally Gary who would get hot. But it really WAS up to Tony and Tim for a long stretch there. I think that Tony may be slow to adjust to the other scorers on the floor, but he is absolutely playing the game that Pop wants played. Or he would be being screamed at, as he was for his first 8 years here.

Exactly. Mills knows that Nando is the better playmaker and Nando knows that Mills is the better shooter.
Yep. I'm glad that's the way it's looking it will turn out. Looks like they should be able to carve out their own spots on the team, and not overlap too much. Maybe we'll actually get something decent out of the two this year.

I don't think it has as much to do with standing as it does position played. DeColo is a pg; Mills is a sg
That may be obvious to me and you, but some of Spursfan thinks there still is (or wants there to be) a compe ion for the back up pg spot between the two. I was just pointing out an instance of why that's not the case

There IS compe ion for the backup pg. Mills doesn't play like the pass-first point guard, so Pop usually pairs him with Ginobili, therefore allowing Mills to play the pg on defense and the SG on offense.

The Spurs dropped the ball. Should have traded him when his stock was higher like when we were winning 60+ with him starting.

I'd like to see this too. On the other hand, I guess Pop weighed it out and decided giving Jax some extra minutes to try to find his rhythm was more important, which I can't really disagree with considering Kawhi is already playing pretty great. But ya, I too want to see more Kawhi!! lol

I agree with you about Pop's system. But I don't think Parker can be let off the hook. The basic idea of the Spurs' offense right now is for Parker to shoot if he's open, or pass to the roller or a shooter if the defense collapses on him. He does the first two things well enough, and I would assume the majority of his assists are to Duncan and Splitter. That's fine, but it is his responsibility to find shooters when he is getting contested by multiple players at the rim. I don't think he's been doing that enough.

I can't remember the last time he passed it on the break to anyone besides Ginobili or Duncan. Most of the time he scores or gets a foul, but there are a good deal of times where he gets out of control (not like Leonard, though) and either turns it over or gets bailed out. I don't think that it's Pop's game plan for him to do that. I just think that it's the remnants of tweak that they've forgot to remove.

Not really. They're still the only bigs we have, we just choose to play small with a couple of SF's (Diaw, Jackson) backing up the post guys and keep the actual backup bigs (Bonner, Blair) on the pine.
