Johnny Manziel going pro:

Media is really milking this story. It was pretty obvious he was going pro when hired representation and of course when he said he wanted to get out of College Station. I would say Mack would still have a job right now if he had recruited Manziel, but even that is a stretch considering how poorly Mack was coaching the last few years.
A lot of conflicting reports on Henderson out right now. Losing him would be a genuine blow to the 2014 class. Sounds like he could still end up at Texas, but things are extremely shaky right now with his recruitment.
Louisville comes out the big winner in all this.
Louisville set to hire Bobby Petrino:

Wow, you call having Petrino as your head football coach a victory...sad

Longview coach John King tells me DT Zaycoven Henderson spoke with Charlie Strong and is indeed going to Texas.
Nice save.
That was CLUTCH!
Thank God. Like I said, that would have been a disaster if he bailed on us. We need him badly.
Thought this was a cool story about Strong:
RC Slo was on the radio with Dat Nguyen on the San Antonio ESPN station (1250) the other afternoon as I was driving home from work. Among other things, they were talking about the Charlie Strong hire at t.u. Most know he was a Grad Assistant at A&M under Sherrill (Slo was DCoord) in 1985. Dat asked about what characteristics Strong displayed that set him apart from other GA's. Slo said we didn't really have them do a lot of "coaching" but what he looked for was that guy who came early, stayed late, and was always looking for something/anything he could do to contribute. He said Charlie was one of those guys.
Then he went on to tell the story of how Charlie got his break to become a real coach on a staff. He said he been good friends with Ray Dorr for a long time and Ray was coach at S. Illinois. RC was talking to Ray and asked if he had any openings on his staff. Ray said he did, but he had it narrowed down to 2 or 3 guys, and he was pretty sure he was going to hire one of them. RC said "I have this guy that's really good, and I promise you, if you interview him, you'll hire him." Dorr told RC that he was comfortable with the 2 or 3 candidates he had, and besides, a small program like S Illinois doesn't have a lot of money to be flying people around for interviews. RC said "Ray, what if I buy him a plane ticket to fly up there and see you. Do you think you could take 20 or 30 minutes to sit down and talk with him?" Dorr said "well, I can't turn down a deal like that!"
Strong flew up to Illinois on RC's dime, and as predicted, got hired into his first ever coaching job.
Yeah, I always had respect for RC Slo . He stands in stark contrast to Dennis who reportedly sold dirty $1,200 insider newsletters.
OrangeBloods saying Texas has offered DT Chris Nelson of Lakeland, FL who is currently committed to Louisville:

This tweet is from a guy that covers Florida for Scout:
@Jason_Higdon
Look for some surprise official visits on January 24th to Texas.
Inside Texas has been saying to keep an eye on DT Travonte Valentine of Palm Bay, FL as well:

Looks like Stonrg's Florida connections may come through for us at DT.
Per Inside Texas, DT Chris Nelson will officially visit Texas on January 24th and Nelson himself says he'll be thinking about shutting it down while in Austin.
I like him a lot more than the San Antonio DT kid we lost.
Quotes from DT Chris Nelson of Lakeland, FL (24/7):
“I reached out to him (Strong),” said Nelson. “I wanted to see what he could do for me so I called Coach Strong and he asked if I would like to follow him to Texas. He wanted to know if my parents thought they would mind that."
“I’m going to talk that over with them later tonight and go from there,” he added. “I like where this is going.”
“He (Strong) offered me right then when I told him I would be interested,” Nelson told Horns247. “I have an offer from Texas now and will be taking an official visit to there later this month, on the 24th.”“I’m ready to go see what Texas has to offer,” he said. “This is something I’m very interested in and I’m very interested in Texas."
“If Texas is as good as everyone says it is, I’m pretty sure I will go ahead and commit to them,” he added. “I’ll switch my commitment.”
24/7 mentioned that DT Poona Ford of Hilton Head Island, SC would also like to visit Texas if he can get on the same page with Strong.
He is currently committed to Louisville as well:

Per OrangeBloods, new coaches Vance Bedford (defensive coordinator), Brian Jean-Mary (linebackers) and Pat Moorer (Strength & Conditioning) have all arrived on campus as of this afternoon. Also, Texas coaches (other than Wylie and Madden) have yet to be notified of their future status.
Thanks for the info Tfloss, good to see you still going strong with it.
