Isn't it Darrion Johnsons brother who post "often" at 24/7's site? In case he is, maybe he will/could shed some lights at somepoint?

Texas has hired Riley Dodge for an offensive quality control position. Some of you may remember he was originally committed to Texas before he ultimately decided to play for his father at North Texas. He was a grad assistant for A&M this past season and a state champion at Southlake Carroll.
You may remember him as this guy:

A potentially big update from Inside Texas...OL Joseph Paul of New Orleans, LA, teammate of DT Courtney Garnett and CB Jermaine Roberts, could be in town this weekend with both of his parents. This is the second time there's been discussion of him returning to Austin since he committed to Florida about a month ago. He supposedly looked into attending the spring game but that never came to fruition. Switching his commitment to Texas is not out the question if he shows up.

That sequence from Dodge is still probably the coolest, craziest thing I've seen in a football game.

His brother referenced a "baby" yesterday, but I won't speculate further on that subject. Sounds like a lot is going on and several reports alluded to it being difficult for any college to get him through admissions. That makes a lot of sense if you consider how talented he is and notice that he's not getting a ton of attention. Hope he can get things worked out but it doesn't look like Texas will be involved going forward.

why? I don't have a subscription anywhere but it seems like no one is actually giving details.
Few interesting quotes I found on Shaggy this morning about whats going on, more in detail. "They updated his status on OB and said he wasn't kicked out but chose to withdraw due to potential fines for missing class." "His brother went on OB talking about how Darrion missed a bunch of classes because he has a newborn child. They felt like he would be excused for a lot of absences because they would "go easy on him" since he has a child, but that wasn't the case. Apparently they hit his mom with a whole bunch of fines that they wouldn't be able to pay, so he withdrew from the school to avoid paying. "

    Straight from his brother:

"Here's the deal. He wasnt kicked out of school or athletics. Darrion has been living with his mom and has had something big happen in his life this past month. Due to that he missed a few days. He has a truancy meeting coming up that he has been doing since last year. Attendance was his problem last year. During the summer he moved back with me because his mom wasnt getting it done. He had truancy meetings and grade checks. He was doing fine, great actually. He was in an online college class, and needed to finish 1 more then he's be good. Mid Fevruary he moves back with mom since it seemed she was doing ok. Now this meeting is coming up and he felt he had a legit reason to miss a few days. He and his mom found that wouldn't be the case. Fines and more were in order. He and his mom opted to sign him into homeschool today. I had no consent in that, or wasnt aware of that till a site called me on my break at like 4. I originally answered no. Smh... Do I agree with this decision?? no, but legally my consent isn't needed for anything with Darrion. I'm just the big bro Darrion would come to live with when he started to act teenagerish. Do I want to break my foot in his butt?? You bet I do, but I feel the best lesson I can teach him right now is to let him find out that it can fall apart. Ill be there to pick up the pieces if it goes that far. I sent him a text that said, "It's Time to man TF up." He called and texted after, but I don't want to talk. I'm hurt right now because Darrion was always my boy. I love him like a son, but he needs my mental tough love now. Physical can only go so far. I'm hurting right now, but I have to teach him a lesson. I have to let him find out.. This all happened yesterday. Just fell apart in a 2 hour time frame. I didnt know until a site called me on my break."

Update on S Mattrell McGraw (24/7):

“I’m definitely still planning to visit Texas,” said McGraw. “I’m not sure when exactly it will be, but I know it will be sometime in May or June.”

“I’ll be paying attention to the campus, the coaches and the environment,” McGraw said. “That’s what’s most important to me. I want coaches that are loyal and honest. I also want a place I’ll like to live when it comes to being outside of football. I haven’t visited yet, but I get the vibe that Texas will be able to offer all that.”

“I’m really open to everyone,” McGraw explained. “I will say that Texas is a school I’m definitely interested in. They’re one I’m taking a hard look at and a school that has begun to separate itself from some of the others. There is a lot to like about Texas and I’m ready to see it when I take my visit.”

“Jermaine (Roberts) and I are real cool and we talk a lot,” McGraw told Hookem.com. “There’s no doubt he is a solid commit to Texas, so he really wants me to join him at Texas and be a Horn. He’s already giving me the recruiting pitch about it, saying that Texas is the real Defensive Back University and that the best go there. He also tells me that there’s a good chance for early playing time with the way the depth chart is currently set up, so yeah, I’d say he’s doing his part in recruiting me.”

“Coach Akina is a real cool coach that is a lot of fun to talk to,” he said. “What he’s done with his players stands out to me. His track record of putting his defensive backs in the NFL is really great, because that’s exactly where I am trying to end up.”

this is where i have a problem with mack's new lack of tolerance policy when it comes to pledges still visiting other schools. he has to know other schools will continue to recruit his currently committed players because he will do the same. it's part of the process. bottom line is this: if your pitch is good enough you should have nothing to fret over. if washington decommits and goes to texas then what a&m had to offer in the end was not on par with texas. to go ape over your recruits who still entertain their options while currently committed, but then seek out other schools currently commited players seems hypocritical to me.

the recruits hold all the cards and everybody knows it regardless of what coach says. it just makes mack look insecure to act otherwise.

the only part of it i agree with is mack telling players if they are looking elsewhere that the school will be recruiting said player's position harder. but that is all the leverage you really got.

I've seen Washington in person and actually talked to a bunch of other players about him and frankly I'm really surprised he is being recruited by both schools so hard. A solid prospect but I didn't really view him as a no-brainer offer. Two things I didn't like 1) he didn't dominate against camp compe ion and 2) he seems to be letting recruiting process get to his head.

Personally, I wouldn't offer the guy based on what I saw. But either the staff saw something I didn't, or it just speaks to our desperation at the position after last year's class and weak DT class this year.

I tend to agree with all the recent posts regarding Mack's visit policy, except for two things. 1) Don't commit if you're not ready. 2) Mack is one of the only coaches that I know that "guarantees" your schollie if you are commited. He has honored offers everytime that a recruit has gotten hurt or even had to quit football due to injury or the threat of hurting your future quality of life. If you are getting this guarantee, I am ok with the policy and the return guarantee that you will honor your commitment. We've all seen numerous times when a top prospect gets hurt and loses all interest from everybody. When Mack offers and you accept, you are still guaranteed the offer will stick, regardless of injury. You can't say the same for most coaches and that changes the game in my opinion in regards to his visit policy.

I don't know where it originated, but rumor is Texas has offered ATH Kevin Shorter of Newton. A lot of people like him at CB but he's dead set on playing RB. No word yet what position the offer is for.

+1. I'm not a fan of Mack's policy but it's hard to argue with that. He's proven a handful of times he'll follow through on that promise. In fact, CB Jermaine Roberts mentioned after he committed that was a big reason why his family was so comfortable with UT.

According to Inside Texas, Searles stopped by Van Alstyne this morning to check on OL Connor Mayes. See the quote from his father below:

"It was a great visit. Coach Searels said they only have two line spots as of now and with Cuney and Knox committed they are in wait and see mode to see what opens up, but that Connor is high on UT's board."

Great point on Jermaine Roberts. While I'm still not a fan of this policy, I do think that it will play great dividends with the families if they look at the guarantee that comes with the restrictions. Specially since they are now offering Sop res. It is a great insurance policy for the families that truly value their education.

According to 24/7, 2015 WR DaMarkus Lodge of Cedar Hill was offered by UT today. He was the offensive MVP of the most recent Rivals camp in Dallas and that's out of everyone in attendance, not just the '15 class.
