Another solid prospect. Has great range and can shoot the ball meaning the Spurs might have some interest here. Good size and athleticism as well.

DX has him as a late first round pick if he declares.

Looks like he's getting bigger and starting to put on some weight as well when looking at this pic

I'd bet he's at the top of the FO's list. We may need a backup SF and he could bring some nice playmaking off a bench that seriously needs it, seems to have a real shot at contributing right away, could speak Russian with Pop...

A perfect Spur. He's shooting 49% on 3 pointers, with 4.6 attempts per game.

Some NBA teams being told by people close to Sergey Karasev that the Russian SF will not be in the 2013 draft....

Not a great surprise because Karasev is only 19 and has a chance to develop into more of a prospect than being on the bubble for the first round. But if the early word holds, the draft has lost one of the better candidates from Europe. 24 days ago
One way or another, I doubt Karasev will be in play for Spurs.
If he has a good/great Hoops Summit, he will be drafted way before Spurs pick.
If he has a bad Hoops Summit, he won't enter/stay in the draft.

That's actually our dilemma with EVERY draft pick. It's amazing we ever get any rotation players at all.

I would say the issue is mainly with overseas players that are making a lot of money and/or have a complicate buyout situation. The rookie scale for a late first round pick isn't that attractive to them. For a college player, that isn't theoretically paid, or for a lot of international players, a guaranteed salary around $1M per year is a nice perspective.

A prospect like Rudy Gobert is only making $65K per year this season, so even if a lottery pick and its $2M per year salary would be nice for him, $1M per year is still a big upgrade over his current salary.

Vladimir Spivak ‏@selloutxboy Sergey Karasev ('93) of BC Triumph Moscow Region is entering 2013 NBA draft, confirmed by different sources. To become official soon.

It's curious to see him make this decision before the Hoop Summit. Maybe he already has guarantee to be drafted from someone.

    Not really.

International players can early enter and withdraw twice from the draft. Karasev has two years left of possible early entry because he will automatically eligible for the 2015 draft. Entering the draft is quite a non-choice for him to do because it isn't a committing choice that takes away some of his options. The true decision to make will be whether or not he stays in the draft.

NBADraft has this guy for the Spurs.
    Mmm.....looking good in this video.
Fancy passing, dunking, shooting the 3, using the board.
Catch and release and also dribble and shoot.
    Even a halfcourt shot...
The Spurs could draft this guy.

Karasev father and son in Spartak

    ...
The even bigger news is the fact that his 20years old son Sergey, the best NBA prospect in Russia and a name that is expected to be heard in this year’s NBA draft, is also expected to sign with the team. Karasev junior wants to stay in Europe in order to improve his game as a starter in a team build around him in order to be fully ready for the jump to the NBA.
I think this will cause him to drop a couple of spots and make him a good candidate for a draft and stash pick.

Still, I'd strongly consider it if I were he. The NBA will be there for him in a year or two. Playing with his father would only happen once. It's like Blake Griffin staying at OU another year to play with his brother.

Sergey Karasev has returned to Moscow until the NBA draft in late June, fueling speculation among front-office executives that a team has given the Russian teen star a strong first-round guarantee, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

I would have nothing against Spurs being the team having promised their first round pick on Karasev. He is a damn good player. Now, it looks a lot like Karasev will be drafter higher than #28. He would make a lot of sense for a lot of teams drafting between #14 and #24 (Jazz, Bucks, Hawks, Cavs, Nets, Pacers..). It's hard to see him sliding past Minny and their Russian connection at #26.

Dallas pick is available and Cavs appear to have parameters of a deal in place to move up from 19 for it. Target is Sergey Karasev.

What's wrong with Dallas? I could see them wanting to move the pick to save some money this season, but getting another pick and having to use that makes little sense. They have a rare chance at getting lottery talent; they should take advantage of it. A Kawhi-caliber player (not that I'm saying that's guaranteed at the spot) is much more valuable than getting another OJ Mayo or Kaman with cap space.

I imagine the deal will be 13 and Carter for 19. That gets Dallas enough room to sign a max player, but who really thinks that's going to happen?

Yeah it's stupid but whatever. Really like Karasev, wish it was us trading for him...

Sergey Karasev will be drafted higher than expected. It's telling that he'll be in the green room over Shabazz Muhammad, Kelly Olynyk, etc.

lol Kennedy. I decided to stop following him when yesterday alone news he broke was trumped twice by more trusted news sources. I think he's just trying to get traffic for hoopsworld.
