I don't understand why Spurs fans are so appalled by the idea of signing Dwight Howard; if we succeed in signing him, it would immediately vault us to the status of instant favorites to win the NBA championship.

And it's not like the prospect of him coming here is all that outrageous. We potentially have the cap space to offer him a max contract, so finances shouldn't be a problem; if anything, our chances of signing him compared to other teams for financial reasons are further augmented due to Texas' lack of state income tax. Plus, if Dwight is serious about starting over, mending his broken image, avoiding media scrutiny, developing his game, winning an NBA championship, and cementing his legacy for years to come, there is literally no better option for him right now than San Antonio.
He's not interested in any of that. He's interested in attention whoring, the spotlight, and breaking Shawn Kemp's record for bas children with different baby mamas...

If after 9 years in the league you don't even bother to put work on your poor free throw shooting, and they actually get worse, I can't buy this guy is really interested in changing anything.

It all depends if the Spurs really want him and if they wanna go balls deep to sign him. Spurs gotta make that call..Dwight won't call us. But if we do make that call and show interest and we get a response back from Dwight. It makes sense to sign in SA

Out of all the teams we have the most talent to make it work. But it's all up to the Spurs. Is this the route you want to go??

My coworker is a friend of Dwight Howard's dad, who is a minister for those of you that don't know. He said that he had a long talk Dwight a couple of weeks ago after not speaking to him for almost two years. Dwight seemed to want to change his image and career.

The rumor about the Spurs came a few days after the conversation. So who knows, maybe Dwight sees working with Pop and Chip would improve his at ude and shooting.

If the Dwight Howard that first entered the NBA shows back up, the one that wanted to coached and had a passion for the game, I would be all in for the Spurs looking to sign. But as of now, I would say no.

After 9 years in the league Tim Duncan sucked at free throws, and was in fact, worse than Howard.

Anybody with knowledge on Spurs cap situation please respond.

What's needed for the Spurs to be able to off max deal or close to max deal??

He is not serious about winning. Dwight is caught up being Dwight. He is in love with the idea of being a star that is clearly more important to him than winning a championship.

I bet if David Robinson and Tim Duncan were to talk to him he would sign
I doubt either would even want to talk to Dwight, in the first place?

anyone who doesn't want DH is beyond full re . he would make us a defensive powerhouse and the favorite to win it all. Tiago can eat a . hope the Blazers offer him a small fortune.

We need another player who can create shots for himself and the offense. Dwight doesn't fit that at all...

we need another guard who can create. not our center. he just needs to protect the basket and haul in rebounds.

All you guys are missing the one major point: Dwight doesn't want to come HERE. That's why it's not happening, not because the Spurs aren't at all interested.

Dwight doesn't like at least three things about the Spurs.

    1. Pop (he yelled at Dwight during the All Star Game).

    2. Splitter (Dwight walked out of a playoff post-game presser when the media asked him about the defensive job Splitter did on him).

    3. The Spurs swept him.

    He ain't comin folks.
