Watching his highlight video (I'm not a college hoops fan) and his jumper is sooooo slow. He brings the ball all the way down to his knees before he releases. I see lots of turnovers in his future unless Chip can get a hold of him.

RC Buford says he's talked to Jean-Charles tonight. Didn't talk to DeShaun Thomas, because he didn't have his number. Bada-bing.

The more I think about it, the more I like this pick. Just 3 months ago Deshaun Thomas was projected as a late 1st round pick. I don't know why he fell so far. He was the Big Ten's leading scorer. Every time I watched an Ohio St game, he was knocking down 3's. Maybe teams were turned off by him playing hard to get lol. If nothing else he can be a 3rd or 4th wing off the bench who can shoot 3's. Maybe he develops into a solid contributor. He's only 21 and he has a sweet lefty stroke.

I LOVE this pick. Deshaun Thomas was an absolute stud at Ohio State. He's a little heavy, but he's a legit 6'7, and a very good wing player. If this had been our pick at #28 I would have still loved it.

You guys trolling Deshaun now for not giving us his phone number is good for laughs, but this guy is going to be a real contributor for the Spurs. Can't leave this guy open. I see him as Kawhi's immediate back-up next year. Seriously. I screamed "YES!!!!!!!!!!!" and Jumped up from the coach when we drafted him. This is AWESOME!

Could be speculation but Kyle Rowland, beat writer for OSU, tweeted this:

Kyle Rowland ‏@KyleRowland 39m Deshaun Thomas will make his Spurs debut July 12 in Las Vegas. http://www.nba.us/news/las-vegas-summer-league-2013-schedule/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt3a …

Yeah, I see that happening. He'll be in the summer league trying to earn a spot and minutes. Guy is really high on himself.

Neal, Ginobili, Thomas. Combine 60 points off the bench one night, brick central the next. I like the pick, but turn him into a defensive stud and I'll LOVE the pick. Good size at the 3. I hope he's not another JA but Thomas has better natural touch around the rim rather than just a midrange Melo wannabe.

The Spurs just got a taller Neal. Very much worth the pick.

Well he has a damn sweet stroke. I have the feeling he will become a 3-pointer machine in SA.

So why did he fall so far in the NBA draft? This guy has a legitimate NBA skillset. Strange.

He just doesn't stand out.. He's not flashy, he doesn't have explosiveness. He's just a guy who can shoot.

Because he's likely incapable of guarding SF's, which is the position he'll primarily, if not damn near entirely, have to play if he's to stick.

Still, at 58, they could have done a lot worse than a guy projected to go roughly 25 spots higher. The fact that he can shoot and fills a positional need gives him an outside shot. Plus, they're highly unlikely to be nowhere near the luxury tax, so if they think he's worthwhile, they could carry 15.

So he worked out for Spurs a week ago. So Spurs had a meeting with him after the "phone incident" and Thomas not giving his number certainly wasn't because he didn't want to join Spurs.

I like the pick. Can shoot the ball, not terrible athletically. Would be great as a bench shooter.

That's what he's there for, come off the bench and shoot the ball.. a bigger Gary Neal but hopefully not so much Hero ball

Apparently his last year of college he was pretty much Mr. Hero Ball -- but his team needed him to be. Before that, he was effective in smaller roles off the catch and shoot and such.

So it sounds like the good news is that he's a bigger Gary Neal on offense, and the bad news is that he's a bigger Gary Neal on defense, and that he's a terrible rebounder. Oh well, he sounds like an interesting prospect.

Any chance he'll make the squad this year?
