To me, this was the steal pick of the draft. Like RC said, everyone went where they were pretty much projected. Thomas was a late to very early 2nd rounder on everyone draft board. Quite honestly, I was not surprise he was higher. Maybe that phone ordeal turned alot of teams off on him. I saw him as high as the early 20's, some teens before that incident.

Guy is a private guy. Most of the Spurs are just that.

Well lets see what he does in summer league and whether we sign him to a contract or off over seas to improve his game and wave him goodbye. Really free agency is where we add depth if we find someone

Park him in Austin for a couple of years to see if he can find an NBA position. I actually don't hate this pick.

Or just get his number, cut him, then consistently prank call him.

Great pick at 58! Because of his shooting and scoring ability he could actually make the team. I'm very interested to see how he performs in the Summer League.

I think that if he does end up on the roster, we should make an effort to have the "Digits" nickname stick.

Spurs don't draft trouble makers so I am sure he is a good kid..

Well he can't be worse than Neal on defense, can he?
I don't think so, I don't think it'll be as glaring in effort. Just a little slow footed I think.

His release is a slow, the same issue we've had with Bonner when teams are closing out fast on him. Hopefully Chip Engelland can work his magic on him
I don't think the kid will be afraid to shoot though.

Offensively, he looks to me like a slightly bigger Malik Hairston.
If Malik could shoot like that, he would easily be an NBA player. I still think he is talent-wise, just saying..

True, but the question is will he be sufficiently bashful if he misses? We don't need another Gary Neal on our team. One is enough.

NBA draft: Long night for Ohio State's Thomas ends with 58th pick by Spurs

Deshaun Thomas sat through 57 of the 60 picks in the NBA draft last night before hearing his name called, rescued from his anxiety shortly after midnight by the San Antonio Spurs.

“Yes, it was the longest night of my life,” Thomas said when reached about 1 a.m. today at his Indianapolis hotel, his base of operations since leaving Ohio State in April to train for the draft.

“But it happened. The Spurs picked me and it’s a great blessing for them to pick me. I’m ready to start my journey and be as successful as I can and help the organization out and get ready to keep following my dream.”

Thomas did not immediately know when he is due in San Antonio, but it will be soon. He likely will play on the Spurs’ entry in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League, which starts July 12.

People said the same thing about Manu. Tons of guys drafted in the 2nd round have been productive NBA players. Let's at least give him a shot, shall we?

If he's hitting shots and doing what he's supposed to do then Pop will give him the green light.. I don't think this guy will shy away from it.

Manu was a star internationally. He had already established himself as a legit talent. I remember people back in the day calling Manu the "European Kobe Bryant" believe it or not. This guy is just another scrub pick, nothing more nothing less.

More game tape. This guy isn't a "scrub." He lacks great athleticism which is why he fell, but he's a pure scorer who can do it a bunch pf different ways. Also shoot's the 3 well. He'll never be a star obviously but I think he may be a steal at 58 as a role player.

Ok, bro. For your sake (and the Spurs), I hope he pans out like you hope. Personally, I just don't see it. He was the 58th pick in a weak draft.

You can't really compare Thomas with Manu. The reason many people did not know how Manu would pan out in the NBA is because many people did not see the soon influx of European talent coming to the NBA. Not many had watched Manu play, everyone has seen Thomas. That being said, if Thomas refines his shooting mechanics a bit, and becomes well-disciplined on the defensive end, I see him being a contributor in this league. However, I don't think he will be Leonard's back-up next season.

I also think we need to stop throwing around the term "pure scorer" so lightly.
