Spurs wanted Southland instead!
He does seem to have solid shooting form. Interesting.
Spurs wanted Southland instead!
Spurs wanted Southerland only if he was fine with being stashed in Europe for a year. Now, the question is if Thomas accepted to be stashed a year in Europe.
Spurs could have gone with Thomas because he accepted it or because he refused it too, but Spurs liked him more than Southerland.
Their interpretation is wrong.
They're similar players, although I think Thomas is better. Southerland is great 3-point shooter, but that's literally all he does. Can't put the ball on the floor at all.
Same thing was said about Redd, Parsons, Hornacek, Price, Microwave, English, Kukoc, Kerr (notice how the Bulls valued shooting efficiency over athleticism) etc, etc. One thing these guys all possessed, they could shoot the ball and very efficiently as well. Thomas was one of the top shooters in the draft and avg. around 50+ from midrange jumpers. He could work on his 3, but what Spurs hasn't improved in shooting the 3ball working with Chip.
At 3rd to last pick of the draft, Thomas was a steal.
Woah, man. You just can't go around giving his Twitter to everyone.
If he ends up being a good player for us, I can see this little incident being heavily repeated by commentators.
Chinook has had some awesome posts on DT!
Kid's gonna make for quite the meme summer.... lol!

Or you could just do like I do and go to the games live I saiddddddd
Shoot like what? Malik shot 53% from the field and 43% from the arc at Oregon. DeShaun Thomas shot 44.5% FG% and 34.5% 3-Pt FG% at Ohio St.. Thomas is just a little bigger and plays 3/4.
You've seen Malik play, both in college and with Spurs. Shooting does not appear to be his strong suit (shot 16% from three at the NBA level). It did not seem like he was a pure shooter and it certainly did not seem like he could get that array of shots that Thomas can get. He shot a higher percentage overall because of his superior athletic ability it appears.
Let's see how Thomas shoots, but it's obviously not just about that either.
Malik was a scorer, not a shooter. The same can be said for Thomas. He is not a shooter.
That's were we disagree. You said he reminds you of Malik. I say they look completely different. Malik was a much better athlete. Thomas appears to be a better all around shooter from what limited things I have seen.
Poor man's Lee Nailon.
Or very poor man's Rodney Rodgers.
There's a rich man's Lee Nailon?
I see Thomas as a shooter. I like the fact that as the primary weapon he was always covered by the best defender and or double teamed but was still able to hit big shots. Offense will not be a problem. In the beginning he will only be allowed to catch and shoot, and he will do it well.
Pop will not let him (if he makes the team) do anything more until he puts in the work he needs to do on defense. This is where he could learn from Danny Green who is not a great athlete either but has learned to move his feet well enough to be effective.
some work and not sit around drinking all day

Interesting article written in February about Deshaun, a former Indiana "Mr. Basketball".
“What a lot of people don’t know about Deshaun is, early on, he was pretty insecure, even as gifted an athlete as he was,” Hensley said. “A lot of it had to do with how he grew up. It was important for him to find a place and a coaching staff that would treat him like family, that would look out for him in a number of ways, and he felt confident about that” with Matta and his staff.
There were tons of other scrub picks the Spurs could have taken.. they could have just picked another Guard and called it a day but they actually tried to address a need.
