Exactly...spurs are always trying to contend now whilst thinking of the future
Couple years to late, I don't like this that much.
Yes, I'd hate giving up Splitter and a first for one year of Gortat. It'd be like giving up Green and a first for a year of Sefalosha. If Gortat had three years and $20 Million left on his deal, I'd be fine with trading Splitter for him straight up. But even if Gortat is a bit better than Splitter (and by almost all accounts outside of Spurs fans, he's not), it's not worth giving up a pick in such a strong draft. , throw Jean-Charles in there instead.
I'm all for money-balling Splitter's contract into more production. I'm even good with upgrading from him. But it's not nearly as easy to do that as people seem to think. There are only a handful of bigs that can do what Splitter can making less than $10 Million. And besides Varejao, none of them would be enough of an upgrade on the court to warrant giving up a pick (and Varejao's injury history makes that trade very risky). Unless the team has a lot of confidence in Baynes, letting go of Splitter for anything short of a star big is foolish.
I guess if Splitter agent is telling us he wants more then we can pay then get Gorat makes sent. But I do agree that next years draft is from all accounts stacked with talent and no way do I want to give up Splitter and our pick/Diaw. In fact if it is just a straight up trade I would want the Suns draft pick.
The question if this is a three party deal who is the third party?
Splitter is a great regular season player.
6 pts and 3 boards in 20 mpg in the playoffs is not worth 9M+/yr though. It just isn't. No matter how scarce big guys are in today's NBA, I have trouble justifying that kind of money to guys who lay duds when it matters most and guys who can't be trusted.
90% of this board trusts Diaw over Splitter in a game 7 situation. That's pretty ed up.
Saying that, I still would probably resign him just because. I wouldn't enjoy seeing him get that money though and I would certainly entertain trade offers for him. Even a 1 year rental of Gortat if that were to ultimately be the case.
Gortat for Splitter has one thinking if I'm the spurs I am hesitant giving Splitter 3 to 4 years at 7.5 a year but for Gortat one year rental it does sound like a worthwhile gamble and leaves cap space for the following year not tied to a middle tier big man.
Depends who you're playing... if we're playing Indiana, I bet it would be a different tune.
Yup. Watch the WCF against Memphis. How quickly they forget.
I don't trust Tiago near as much as I trust Boris and majority of spurfan I talk to feel the same way. Doesn't matter who the opponent is.
Lol "how quickly they forget".
I have already said multiple times that I like Tiago and I would re-sign him. Just saying he isn't worth all that money. He isn't that good and he certainly isn't irreplaceable.
We're talking about paying him the same kind of money Duncan is making right now and a couple million short of what Parker makes. He isn't worth that. Just sayin.
We swept the Grizz because everyone was playing well. It's not as if Tiago was the difference maker in that series, I'm pretty sure it was Parker who really laid the smack down. Look, I like Splitter and was a huge supporter. But I am definitely in favor of looking at other options before inking him up to a deal.
If by a couple million you mean 3.5 million then yes, yes we are. But both Tim and Tony are massively outperforming their contracts. This will probably be Tiago's only big NBA contract of his career, so it's totally understandable that he wants something in the ballpark of his market rate.
Could be. Having flexibility on the personnel is good though. We've been burned before by not having a rugged guy inside helping Tim to defend the paint.
Doesn't have to be Tiago, and perhaps we don't need to pay as much for that. But I think it's a need, and not one that a guy like Diaw can provide on a consistent basis.
Would ing love Gortat over Splitter. He has the fire and the nasty that we need.
I agree. I wouldn't just let him walk. Entertaining trade offers is smart though. I like the Gortat idea. I do agree with the above sentiments of wanting to keep our first round pick next year though if at all possible.
One thing we can count on Gortat for is him not being a pussy around the rim tbh
There is no need to argue. This rumor appears to be largely made up.
Gortat..Now Gortat, Scola combo trade I might be up for..Still Diaw and Splitter is too much for Gortat
that. I like Gortat and all but giving up Splitter for a one-year rental is dumb. Would rather keep Diaw too.
I don't see why the Suns would make this trade looking at their personnel. You are trading for what you already have.
Signing Splitter to a contract only to be Tim's backup if we play the Heat in the Finals. The thought of 9 million for 10mpg in the finals is angering.
Don't want to have to trade birth Diaw and Splitter to get him. If it was just Splitter I'd consider it. , I don't know if I'd even want to give up next years' 1st rounder.... That is supposed to be a fully loaded draft.
