He'll be a solid addition to the Toros.
Is there any ticket sales value for the Toros to sign Longhorns?
Kabongo would be a nice player for the Toros. He should also help their attendance.
Ya gotta admit his name alone should gain him a slot on some team. I can almost hear the announcer now...
"The shot is up and its good! Kowabunga Cowboy Kobongo hits the 3 again!"
cojo kabongo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> nando.................................
spurs quickly becoming the longhorns' route to the NBA
It's camp. They always bring in spares at basically every position. You know, "camp bodies". But by playing for the Spurs, even just in preseason and training camp, it makes allocation to the Toros that much easier. It means the Toros won't necessarily have to draft him but can claim him as a local player (because of the UT connection as well as the Spurs connection). The Spurs have played this D-League game many many times.
Wanted Kabongo to wind up on the Toros. He has the potential to be a solid role player for the Spurs in the future.
Well, someone had to take Joseph's spot on the Toros considering Cory will likely be in the rotation.
When you consider that Parker will be rested for the first part of the training camp and that De Colo might be moved to the SG spot, an additional PG to practice was needed. It's a big plus that he will be able to be assigned at the Toros and that he is kinda talented.
Kabongo is just a high quality addition for a training camp like Young and Maggette. Spurs might have oppened their wallet and guarantee some money to have that kind of players.
So that means that Manu, Beli, and Nando are the SGs, while TP, Cojo, and Mills are the PGs?
I think these are the most high profile camp invites we've had for some time.
Surprised Kabongo went undrafted.
The fact that the Spurs invited two veteran wings is a good sign IMO.
Sounds about right. Green though?
I think Manu will mostly play SF this season.
I actually think that kabongo has a higher ceiling than joseph. what cojo has demonstrated to us is that he has a very strong work ethic. maybe that rubs off on kabongo.
You forgot Green. But yes, that's likely the rotation. I think Manu plays backup SF and assuming either one makes the team, Young or Maggette as the situational SF.
Using him as a sort-of point forward isn't a bad idea. If it means Belinelli/Joseph/Mills handle the ball more, all the better.
We could see this rotation:
Parker/Joseph
Green/Belinelli
Leonard/Ginobili
Duncan/Bonner
Splitter/Diaw
Of course, it's a bit more complicated than that because Pop doesn't do hockey subs utions except to make a point and he uses guards/wings/bigs, but that's a nice overview.
Geez, I completely forgot about Danny.
Ok, then revised we have TP, Cojo, and Mills as PGs.
Danny, Beli, and Nando as SGs.
Kawhi, Manu, and ? as SFs.
All with a few interchangeable parts.
It's too bad two players have sit out.
The NBA should let all 15 players suit up and play IMHO.
Parker/Joseph/Mills
Green/Belinelli/De Colo
Leonard/Ginobili/Journeyman wing to be signed later
Duncan/Bonner/Ayres
Splitter/Diaw/Baynes
that sound right?
The Toros will be a very good place for Kabongo to continue his development and if he improves enough, Spurs will still be able to re-sign later this year.
I'm not so sure about that.
He is an inch or two shorter and 5 to 10 pounds less than Cojo.
He is known to be a playmaker in high school and college, very good at passing and finding his teammates for them to shoot, but that may be because he doesn't have much confidence in his shooting, plus he is very quick, can stop on a dime, and goes right or left equally well. However his defense leaves a bit to be desired, certainly not as good as Cojo.
Dont expect Hollis Thompson (6ers) or JaMychal Green (clippers).
MOST LIKELY:
Parker, Joseph, Mills
Green, Belinelli, De Colo
Leonard, Ginobili, Young
Duncan, Diaw, Bonner
Splitter, Baynes, Ayres
MY DREAM ROSTER:
Parker, Joseph, Mills
Green, Ginobili, Belinelli
Leonard, Maggette, Young
Duncan, Diaw, Bonner
Splitter, Baynes, Ayres
