i'll get into the PC and take a pic of the power supply

Plague Tale may not be the best game to base that off of since it seems poorly optimized and fairly demanding on the gpu. RDR2 has zero issues running at max settings by comparison

Plague Tale only hits one core and i7-7700 is a nearly six year old chip. If you are looking to do an upgrade though Amazon has the Ryzen 5 5600 for $135 which is a ridiculously good deal, though I'd make sure to buy it directly from Amazon. They have a third party seller with it for $118 but no clue if they're trustworthy.

RDR2 is pretty cpu light by today's standards, though quite gpu heavy.

I've been thinking about a CPU and ram upgrade. Still running on a 3600x and 16 gigs of ram with my 3080. I can still run everything at ultra in most games without hiccups, but I'd rather get ahead of it all and upgrade sooner rather than later.

If your board has good VRM you should look at the Ryzen 7 5800x3D. Not the Ryzen 7 5800x though. The 5800x3D has a ton of extra cache that makes it kick the living out of the regular 5800x in gaming.

They were down to $329 about a week ago and are since back up to $400, but still going to be cheaper than buying an i5-13600k + board + RAM or a Ryzen 5 7600X + board + RAM. Only thing is I'd really think about jumping fast on one because for instance newegg and amazon are both sold out from the main stores and only have third party options available now after they cleared them out last week at $329. And Best Buy sold out of them too at $329. Gamestop sold out at $329 too. They're out of stock almost everywhere and AMD isn't going to be making any more of them most likely.

Newegg has that R5 5600 for $119 now after a $20 off promo code.

    https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-5...-736-_-Product

All of Ryzen 5000 series has gotten a good drop in price with the release of the Ryzen 7000 series. But that Ryzen 5 5600 is like i3 level pricing while getting i5 level performance.

Nice find. you think this will be compatible with my current motherboard based on the current cpu?

tbh i'm thinking of slowly just collecting parts and assembling a PC myself over the next year. it's either that or take everything out of the prebuilt and reorganize it more efficiently

No, you'll need a new board. And with how cheap RAM is right now might as well get either 16GB or 32GB of decent DDR4-3600, as I'd expect any prebuilt will be using kind of slow DDR4-2166 or DDR4-2666. If you want it that $119 R5 5600 probably won't be in stock for long at that price. You already pretty much can't find the Ryzen 7 5800x3D after it went on fire sale for $329 last week and I suspect it'll be similar for that 5600, though the 5600 was definitely a higher volume part than the 5800x3D.

Just looked up a pretty new review of the i5-13600k on techpowerup and in their testsuite the 5600 should be about a 30% bump in performance over a 7700 when cpu limited right now. I wouldn't do a gpu upgrade for 30% higher performance, but for cpu I might. I definitely would not buy now though if you're planning on building a PC next year. Buy then. If you buy now put the new PC together now, otherwise you're pissing away money since in 6 months stuff like the 13th gen Intel will be cheaper than it is now and would offer a nice upgrade over the 5600 much less your 7700.

Just check on the support website for your board for what BIOS you need to run a 5800x3D. I imagine you'll probably need a BIOS update if you bought the board back when the 3600x was current gen.

Got everything installed yesterday and the improvement in performance has been noticeable. I think the only thing I'm missing at this point is a 4k monitor.

Don't tell me you're rocking a 1080p monitor with a 3080 lol. 4k monitor is definitely a must buy with a high end gpu. I'm even glad I have a 4k monitor with my 1660 Super since it still looks awesome at 1440p, though I'm thinking of doing an upgrade to maybe an RX 6700 or 6700 XT soon since I have to run a few games at 1080p on my 1660S.

I've been using a 1440p monitor. It was night and day coming from 1080p on my old rig. Just wondering if the jump to 4k would be worth it. Some of these 4ks can get pricey. I play a lot of compe ive shooters so I'm going to need higher refresh rates.

Do some shopping on this stuff... you should be able to get a 4k60 or 4k120 IPS monitor with a low latency these days without breaking the bank...

Honestly I see hugely diminishing returns going from 1440p to 4k on my 28 inch monitor while yeah 1440p is absolute night and day better than 1080p, so if you already have a good 1440p 144Hz panel I wouldn't bother with an upgrade unless say you're looking for something that also has HDMI 2.1 VRR to connect a PS5 to as well. Really takes a bigscreen or a huge monitor (32 inches plus) to make 4k shine over 1440p IMO.

    ie:

If you want OLED, that's when things get really pricey (2x the price above)

Jeez $118 with Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy for a Ryzen 5 5600. This might be the best cpu deal I have ever seen. Though you gotta make sure you select sold by Amazon, not sure why a third party seller is getting top billing on it right now.

I'm about to get a monitor too, and instead of the pixels towards a 4K, I'm think an ultrawide might offer better gaming and work use

Wow I'm floored. There is an RX 6650 XT for $170 after rebate right now. That's like a little faster equivalent to what's in the PS5. It's legit the best new gpu deal I have seen in eight years if you're ok waiting 6-8 weeks on a $180 rebate.

    EDIT: Dead

Holy video cards, nvidia 3xxx & 4xxx series, are still $1500-2500 when I searched them yesterday on amazon? ! I was about to purchase a ryzen 9 7950 + mb combo yesterday until I saw those video card prices. I'll hold off until those come down a bit, like $1000 less.
