Hockey is a badass sport, but it's like this from the NHL that makes it seem like a chintzy minor-league-quality product, tbh.... what's sad is that this isn't the only time a crook has tried to buy a team without any actual money and gotten away with it temporarily, the same exact thing happened to the Sabres and Predators several years after the Spano story!
