What are the ratings in other sports? The NBA ratings are also down from the 1980s and 1990s. Just too many other options of things to do now with the internet and personal phones.

Soccer will not over take baseball. Soccer is boring unless it is world cup and that is only because it is country vs country. Team x from a city vs team Y from another city no one cares about, the game itself is boring if it is not World Cup.
Baseball didn't take off in other countries because they couldn't buy the equipment to play, too poor to play as kids. Much cheaper just getting one soccer ball and kick that around.
Baseball is the greatest sport. Rare team sport that is not dictated by a time clock, also play begins with the defense holding the ball.
