    A few notes from 24/7...

-LB Anthony Wheeler says he's choosing from Texas and OU on Friday. Although he's expected to commit to OU, he mentioned his closest relationship is with Coach Jean-Mary.

-WR DaMarkus Lodge said he's pretty sure that Texas will receive his last official visit.

-the crystal ball selections for ATH Tim Irvin are starting to trend towards Texas and he spoke highly of Strong today.

Interesting that Locksley said Strong is the coach he speaks with the most even though he's been committed to FSU for months.

WR Damarkus Lodge travelled with LB Malik Jefferson to the Under Armour game. Jefferson is already on him. per 24/7.

I just got off a three-hour plane flight with Malik. I’ve already gotten every bit of Texas I can get,” Lodge said laughing. “He was just telling me how great a program it is. He’s telling me all the things I could do coming in there.

DeShon Elliott and John Burt are roommates at the Under Armour game, per 24/7. I'm glad that Burt is with a Texas commit rather than an Auburn commit, McGriff in particular.

Two notes from the Army check-ins yesterday, from 24/7.

    - TE Devonaire Clarington has 11 inch hands. The biggest hands of anyone at the game.

    - CB and Georgia commit Deandre Baker is only 5'10 and 172lbs, but has 36 inch arms. Those arms are longer than OL Keaten Sutherland (6'5, 280lbs), Tristen Hoge (6'5, 292lbs) and Henry Roberts (6'6, 263lbs).

A lot of things going on with practices from both All-Star games underway. I'll try to recap the most interesting things, I'll try link to videos/pictures, so this page won't take forever to load.

    From the Under Armour game.

From left to right: Leo Lewis (Ole Miss commit), Malik Jefferson and Anthony Wheeler.

From left to right: QB Kyler Murray, RB SoSo Jamabo and WR Damarkus Lodge

    S DeShon Elliott

Practice Notes from what I could gather from 24/7 (Only Texas guys, commits or targets):
    - DT Daylon Mack is shorter than anticipated, but quick and really powerfull.
    - RB SoSo Jamabo has worked out as a WR.
    - S DeShon Elliott has been looking really, really good at safety. Elliott is also back returning punts.
    - Dallas Prime Prep WR Brandon Martin has been pretty good in one-on-one and he's been very physical, Brian Perroni has heard he is headed to East Mississippi Community College (OT Brandon Hodges went there).
    - OT Drew Richmond had problems with DE Byron Cowart (Cowart is making a case for the number 1 player in the country though), but has held his own as LT for the most part.
    - WR Damarkus Lodge has been called "a special talent".
    - Malik Jefferson has no problems running with TE's in coverage
    - Anthony Wheeler plays ILB.

    EDIT: Forgot Vine links..
DeShon Elliott (He is not hurt, even though it might look like it)

I really want Texas to get Soso Jamabo, I have a feeling he is going to be huge on the college level.

TE Devonaire Clarington has looked great in the first Army practice. He has soft hands that catches everything thrown his way. Hasn't shown anything as a blocker (there hasn't been any drills yet). He won his share of one-on-one battles with CB's due to his size and speed.

S Tim Irvin has been vocal. By far the most vocal guy at the first practice. He has yelled at LB's for not lining up correctly in 11-on-11. The comparison to Quandre seems better and better. He's been breaking on the ball extremely quickly, arriving before the ball on a couple occasions.

@SBNRecruiting: Just got the commitment list for the #ArmyBowl and FL TE Devonaire Clarington is not on it. Had been expected to announce Saturday.

Saw this quote on Shaggy, and thought it was a joke. But it's true. Daylon Mack regarding Texas, per Gerry Hamilton (ESPN).

"Oh man, to make up ground? They are only in it because my good friend Malik [Jefferson] committed there, so I feel like I have to give them a look because Malik and I would like to play together. I will give them a look, but I’m not sure after that. I’m really focused more on LSU and TCU."

It doesn't seem like he has any interest in Texas, but so did Malik Jefferson. I'm thinking he is downplaying Texas and hopes they blow him away on his visit, so that he doesn't seem like a "follower" of Jefferson.

Re: Daylon Mack, this is my take as well. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Haha what a joke. I know this is an assistant/ ex-player. Still a bad look.

@SBNRecruiting: Wasn't on commitment list sent out earlier, but FL TE Devonaire Clarington said that he will announce Saturday at the #ArmyBowl.

Do yourself a favor and ignore anything the guy says. That's not even me being bitter, but seriously, don't. He would bring up visiting Florida one day, then three days later tweet about how he called Sumlin and was 100% committed. Just wait until February.

Recruiting immature 16-18 year old kids with incomplete/inadequate family structure looks like it would be a total beating. The vast majority of these dudes will not even sniff the NFL in 4-5 years - they will also not make legit progress towards a marketable degree on top of everything else.

The twitter universe allows the egomaniacs being courted by Div I schools to come off like total bags with their "Top Fives Lists". It's all pretty annoying.

I would not have the patience to do what these college coaches have to do in this area.....

Agreed 100%. I have a lot of respect for guys that commit and don't reach out for attention.

Blocking and tackling are so fundamental to me that's it's ridiculous to even think about executing entire plays if these items are not in place. This was the worst offensive line I have ever seen at UT. Of course Swoopes is not a QB. But who would be behind that line.
