CB Xavier Lewis has cancelled his OV to Texas next weekend, per 24/7.
Looks like it's down to Davante Davis, Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, DeAndre Baker and Sheldrick Redwine for the cornerback spots.
Texas hosted a number of top targets over the weekend, but none was potentially more impactful than five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack.
Mack, ranked No. 6 overall in the ESPN 300, wasn’t sure what to expect headed into his official visit, having not been on campus in Austin since the summer of 2013. That made Mack's trip this weekend a sort of first impression for Charlie Strong and the Longhorns staff.
“It went great!” Mack said. “The vibe was completely different from the last time I was there. I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy it that much, but my perspective on Texas is way different now. Great staff! Great people and my parents really liked it as well.”
While Mack spent considerable time with good friend and Texas early enrollee Malik Jefferson, it was time spent with Strong and staff that ultimately had to make the difference if the Longhorns are going to seriously be in the mix come signing day on Feb. 4.
Strong’s message was a simple one.
“That I could come in and fill Malcom Brown’s spot and have a huge impact as a freshman,” Mack said.
Up next for Mack will be an unofficial visit to TCU next weekend. The Horned Frogs will get the last chance with the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Lone Star State in a recruitment that has become a battle between Texas A&M, Texas and TCU.
While TCU was considered a slight favorite over Texas A&M headed into the Texas visit, the waters have been muddied as expected with late-January visits.
“I can’t really give an order at this point, but Texas made a huge impression," Mack said. "I have a couple of guys I’ll talk to about it all when I get back home, but Texas definitely gave me a lot to think about, and I feel really good about them headed into signing day.”
Before making the trip to TCU, Mack will receive in-home visits from Strong on Tuesday night and Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin Wednesday night.
Mack, a former Texas A&M verbal, is set to announce his decision on national signing day, Feb. 4, live on ESPN at Gladewater High

@thelonghorns12: Soso's mom wants him at Texas per Ketch. Strong is a ladies man.
I'm not a fan of NSD flips, even if they go our way. Part of growing up and being a man (and that's what core values are all about), includes not leaving a team hanging like it is some kind of game. If you don't want into on school, let them know so that spot is opened for someone else. Be responsible.
nothing to sell about your own program
6 million a year
You're assuming the coaches aren't aware before the public.
ESPN saying RB Soso Jamabo and WR DaMarkus Lodge will also announce on National Signing Day.
Parents almost always want their kid to stay closer to home. Plus, Charlie's core values (unlike Sumlin who doesn't have any) are very attractive to parents and they feel that they are putting their son in the hands of a man with integrity who cares about seeing them actually graduate and develop as men.
Does this guy work for a certain website? Or is he just a random fan?
From QB Kai Locksley speaking on DT Daylon Mack (OrangeBloods):
"In the conversations we've had, he thought this was probably one of the best visits he's been on. He was smiling ear to ear every day. I think he's definitely on board."
Not entirely sure he doesn't seem to be affiliated with any recruiting service or website. I'm under the impression he has access to one of the services though and just tweets out what he sees there. He stays very current with everything going on so it's a good follow.
The latter. Good follow on Twitter. I thing I've seen him on Horn Sports and Shaggy.
Daylon Mack is apparently no longer doing interviews with A&M media per Taylor Hamm.
I mentioned little clues the other day. Sometimes paying attention to who these kids talk to, and who they don't talk to, can help you form an educated opinion on what's to come. For example, Gentry wasn't contacting any Texas media before his trip to Michigan.
@TheKylerMurray: I ain't felt the pressure in a little while... It's gon' take some getting used to...
Admission to being in battle amongst yourself about which school to choose?
^^^^^^ THIS..... Coaches will know ahead of time. If you see any late moves by the staff there's a reason.
big 12 highlighted in orange. Subtle.
