Jermichael Finley met with a "mystery team" on Friday... the Raiders are still lacking a trustworthy starting TE, have 9 mil in cap room left, and GM Reggie McKenzie has GB ties. interesting speculation going on
Jermichael "Butterfingers" Finley sucks and is way overrated.... hope the Raiders waste money on him

glad you're stepping your nickname game up . was certain you'd go with Jermichael "overrated" Finley. i'm not sure how i feel about him, but he's better than the other tight ends on our roster. the only sleeper guy we have is David Ausberry but he's been perennial preseason/camp hype only to be hurt/non-factor every season

    http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2014/...-starting-job/

tl;dr: basically Carr looking better than they thought, more accurate than they thought. he's learning the offense at a rate faster than expected. they no longer believes he needs a redshirt season. they aren't ruling him starting out, saying they'll let him compete, but he still has to catch up to Schaub.

Of course, Carr is a guy thats supposed to look good in non-contact practice. The real questions will be answered when facing a live rush in camp and preseason

According to Lindy's 2014 NFL Preview the Raiders and ans are the two worst teams in the league. According to a scoring system ranking all the positions.

    Seahawks number 1 with a 73.5
ans and Raiders numbers 31-32 with a woeful 61.5

I do believe the Raiders will be better than that but playing in the AFC West...ouch!

the schedule is murder this year, but the jets, texans, dolphins, browns, bills games are all games that aren't unreasonable to expect wins in... i think the hope is to sneak out of the nfc W with a win.... most likely in a home game vs the cards. the raiders also tend to play San Diego well, and i dont think we lay 2 eggs against KC again. we've done fairly well against the chiefs for the last few years besides 2013

Ok man make it 8-8. I can see that. You have the Niners right where ya want them, they play the Seahawks on a Thurs, Raiders then at the Seahawks. Talk about stupid scheduling.

You also only have one double road scenario and a two week home stand coming out of a bye.

i'm not anticipating a playoff birth this year, don't get me wrong. the hope is that they improve (to something like 7-9 or 8-8) and show some hope for the future for a few reasons:

    1) if they have another awful record, there's a good shot the coaching staff will be replaced, possibly the GM. too much turnover... i'd rather they earn a shot to keep stability

    2) if they show improvement and are thus no longer seen as a dysfunctional laughingstock, but rather a team moving in the right direction, it would give them more opportunities in free agency. players for the past decade have been avoiding oakland, and rightfully so. if we turn it around, the 'stink' around oakland would be lifted. the raiders have the most cap space next offseason (for the 2nd straight year)

I've always liked the Raiders, and would love to see them back in the mix. Football is better when the Raiders are relevant.

I agree with all ya said, yep, a couple more seasons and hopefully the Raiders will be playoff bound.

DJ "heart surgery" Hayden on the pup to start camp .

Dude had that horrible injury in his last year in college, missed all of last years camp and preseason with a follow up procedure , was eventually put on IR with a groin injury, and starts this year on pup. Medical bust

By all accounts they're saying our QB group as a whole is looking very strong, especially compared to last year (Pryor, Flynn, and UDFA McGloin)... Schaub and Carr have both looked sharp, and McGloin is better than he was at this point last year.

But the idea all along has been to start Schaub unless he faceplants, very similar to the situation in Seattle between Flynn and Russell Wilson. apparently they take way more downfield shots with Carr than Schaub, but he's still mostly running with the 2's. Schaub has been particularly sharp in redzone drills

What's most interesting is what I'm hearing from Dennis Allen after practices. I know there's a ton of coachspeak everywhere, but his tone is drastically different than the last couple of camps. Other years at this point he kept saying "they're making a lot of mistakes, but we have time to correct those, its still week 1 of camp" or "they're getting a little better, still have a ways to go"... trying to give a positive spin on ty situations. This year he's been saying "it was a great practice, really like what i'm seeing" etc. I will always take coach press conferences with a grain of salt (and then some) but its interesting comparing him to how he's sounded the last 2 years

By all accounts Carr is looking fine (though he did up a snap today, he did play primarily shotgun his last 2 seasons at Fresno St.), but Schaub has been very sharp throughout this first week of camp. The plan all along has been to redshirt Carr unless they absolutely HAD to get him in there, and at this point it looks like Schaub will be the unquestioned starter. He's been very strong in the short/intermediate game.

The front 7 hasn't really been giving enough time to complete that many deep passes. The d-line has been winning the battle in the trenches, and Lamarr Woodley is the guy who's name i've heard mentioned most in that regard.

Running back battle is still unclear, at this point the best guess is a complete plateau between MJD and McFadden, though its difficult to gauge the backs in practices, when you aren't dragging guys down to the ground or hitting them with any serious power. I think Jones-Drew would look better in those scenarios, McFadden has a porn-star build. Big upper body, skinny legs. Not great for driving through contact.

Raiders first depth chart has been released... most interesting spots

-MJD listed above McFadden. MJD is a better between tackles runner and a better pass protector. McFadden is a better receiver. makes sense this way, though i still predict a roughly even number of touches.

-Denarius Moore 3rd stringer... dude has regressed every year since his really impressive rookie campaign, where he appeared to be an absolute steal in the 5th round. He had a bunch of drop issues last couple of years and has been bad in camp. He could be a surprise cut. Greg Little is ahead of him on the depth chart, and he's not exactly known as a "hands" guy

-1st string receivers are Rod Streater and Andre Holmes, with james jones 2nd. the raiders will run a bunch of 3 receiver sets though, with Streater moving to the slot.

-David Ausberry listed as #1 TE over Mychal Rivera. ausberry is your typical annual offseason hype guy who is always hurt. hopefully he stays healthy this year. good to see he's done well enough to have the 1 spot for now.

-Schaub 1, Carr 2, McGloin 3. just as planned, just as expected

my biggest disappointment is the LG spot... 3rd round pick Gabe Jackson should be able to win that spot from Khalif Barnes, who is just really underwhelming. is ok at everything, not good at anything. the 1st depth chart usually sees a lot of changes, and hopefully Barnes ends up as a reserve. he can play 4 spots on the line. Jackson is a ing truck at 336 pounds
