There is this misconception that Alabama is a running back U, nope, not even close. They went decades without any stud backs, (other than Shaun Alexander) It 's just been in the last decade that they "finally" started showing up in Tuscaloosa with Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy and now T.J Yelton. But....it's the soph Derrick Henry who might be better than all of them. He;s another speed/with size guy that the Crimson Tide recruit, they stay away from scat back types (Sproles, Johnson, Charles) They want guys who pack a wallop and some wiggle. That's Derrick Henry.

Auburn is running back U when it comes to the SEC.

    James Brooks
    Ronnie Brown
    Joe Cribbs
    Bo Jackson
    Stephen Davis
    William Andrews
    Cadillac Williams
    Rudi Johnson

Penn State, USC, Miami, Syracuse other running back U's.

do you really believe the BS you type?

No school comes close to USC

    Mike Garrett
    OJ Simpson
    Charles White
    Marcus Allen
    Reggie Bush

That is just their Heisman winners

Outside of those guys you have past greats like Frank Gifford, Joe Arnett, and guys like Lindale White, Ricky Bell, Anthony Davis, Joel McKnight, and Justin Fargus.

And even if you are talking about recent success at that position, Auburn is still sitting behind teams like Texas who had a damn good run with Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, jamal Charles, and Charles Ogbonnaya to name a few.

If Gurly wouldn't have been injured, the Gurley/Nick Chubb combo would have been the best in the NCAA, since that didn't happen it's now the T.J.Yeldon/Derrick Henry duo. Not really a thunder n' lightnin' duo, Yeldon a load himself.

I like Yeldon, he doesn't waste anything, always heading up field and quickly. Henry more of a slasher with power and more speed than it appears.

The difference in speed with size between the two is dramatic.

This thread is about a lone running back in Derrick Henry not a team accomplishment. Who was better the SB champ Timmy Smith or the never even played in a SB Barry Sanders?

Jim Brown was the first of the big fast power backs.

So you judge backs by how many championships their...TEAM...wins?

This thread isn't about Alabama and the championship, it's about a running back who looks like next season he'll be a real force. He's a lot like this guy...

When they're an integral part of that championship(s) you damn right.

Nobody thinks Emmitt Smith was better than Barry Sanders, many many times Emmitt was 5 yards down the field before he met a defender. He had a great QB, HOF receiver and a monster O line. Sanders had none of that.

Derrick Henry is by far a better back than Ogilvie all things being equal. Yes I saw Ogilvie play many times.

When Henry is an integral part of repeat National Championships we'll agree.

I don't do symbolism over substance, Avante.

    It's my religion.

The bottom line when it comes to backs is their abilty, not team success or lack of it. According to you Trent Dilfer was better than Dan Marino, Dilfer winning his SB while Marino lost his.

Would you rather have the Major or Henry?
