Spurs contact Pau Gasol reportedly

The Spurs are in a fantastic position here. We don't NEED Gasol. He would give the Spurs unbelievable depth but he would mean way more for Chicago and bring more value. He just needs to decide if he likes the cold weather and outside shot of getting stomped by Spurs in Finals.

Pop's signing was a subtle signal to the league (and PGasol?) that he (Pop) plans to be around after Duncan and Manu are gone. And with the minutes management Pop orchestrates, those two might be around another two years, vice the one most seem to think they are doing in an attempt to repeat for the first time.

Can't remember the talking head piece who recently mentioned (or quoted a player?) that Bulls coach (Tom T) runs his players into the ground. PGasol signing with Chicago = not winning any more les before his career is over. With the current champions, he not only joins an international team that is the only perfect fit for his international talents, but he'll play play under 30min/game. All things being =, i.e., no major injuries, it's possible to win 2+ more les over a 4 year contract.

Assuming he signed for several years, then at 34, he should have looked for reduced minutes to extend his career on a true le contender vice $$ from a team that won't be a le contender during the length of his contract. So PGasol chose $$ over potential les b/c with the Bulls he not only won't see any NBA Finals, but odds are high he'll never see an Eastern Conference Finals either.

If we win a 6th, I'd love to see someone with the look directly in the cameras and say "Hey, Pau, you could have been here!"

Doesn't make sense that he'd take the MLE unless the Spurs and his camp have discussed giving him an early player option to coincidence with the retirements of Duncan and Ginobili and a wink wink agreement for a new larger deal at that time. Still, giving up that kind of (assuming those #s above are fully guaranteed) money usually happens only if you know you can get it elsewhere, in writing, today.

Exactly, no ageing 34-year old player is going to walk away from $29 million unless he can get that or more with another team, and knows it. We Spur fans need to resign ourselves that Gasol is not going to sign a two year MLE and leave a $29 million contract on the table. It's not going to happen.

If it's for the minimum, there's nothing wrong with that. You don't have to like Bonner, but you have to admit that he hasn't been a problem to the Spurs since Pop finally stopped playing him like a 2nd big.

Which playoff game you talking about?

Last big loss I remember was game 6 last Finals. That was not on Bonner. I do remember Ibaka blocking or altering almost every shoot in games 3 and 4. Then Bonner started and opened up the lane a little bit. Not to mention he hit 2 threes in the clinching game 6 in OKC.

I don't get all the Bonner hate on here? I wouldn't want to pay him big money, but I would love to see him return for the minimum.
