Messi hasn't been physically fit all season long. He's been walking for a whole year. To win the best player award in this situation is pretty amazing (although I think he didn't deserve it). The 2010 WC should've been his greatest chance to shine in this compe ion, but with Maradona coaching that was not realistic.
Anyway, I think Germany was the fair champion. Best team in this tournament. Again a passing team wins the WC: that's always fine with me.

It wasnt the fair champion, German goalkeeper tattoing his knee in Higuain face inside the goalfield was a penalty but what happened? side referees were staring at the moon but everybody saw the replay like 4 times.
And another german holding Aguero was the second missed penalty call.

Messi vs Maradona would be a more interesting comparation, and would say Messi is neaither as good as forward and specially not as good playmaker that Maradona was. Not sure how was Messi the best player of the 2014 mundial, tbh.
