A source tells Liberty Ballers that the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia have agreed in principle to send point guard Jeremy Lin to the Sixers, as well as a first round pick.

In order to sign a player like Chris Bosh to a maximum level contract, Houston's best bet is to unload Lin's expiring deal to clear the sufficient cap space. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Bosh would accept Houston's max contract offer
if James opts to sign with Cleveland instead of Miami. However, Chandler Parsons' signed offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks complicates the situation.

Wouldn't it be funny if Rockets lose Parsons to the Mavs and Bosh rejects the Rockets offer.

    How boring.

Lin's contract is a nice thing for Philly, though. He counts for only $8.33 Million for the cap, so they could take back more salary for other assets. But it counts as $15 Million for the floor, so it helps them get there.

How's it stupid of Philly? It's very smart. They are going to suck, take on a no risk player with an expiring contract when they need to fill roster spots anyways and get a first round pick for it.

Maybe not stupid yet, I want to see if they throw someone else in. Houston needs a partner to make this thing happen, time to stick it to them to get assets or picks.

I think it's going to be two 1st rounders or possibly Beverly as that 3rd piece. Philly is going to rape the rockets on this deal since they have all the leverage at this point.

They won't send anyone back because HOU wants no money (maybe the rights to some obscure player). I mean, getting a first rounder for taking on an expiring contract is about as good as it gets. Especially when getting the salary helps you and you happen to get a good locker room guy out of it too.

I have zero problems with Philly sucking... means cheaper tix when I go see the Spurs there...

I just thought they could finally start putting something together with MCW and Noel... heck, I thought Embiid might be back after the ASG break...

This deal though does nothing to change anything. They just simply got a first round pick for remaining the same as they were.

Philly only get the 8mil to count against the cap but have to pay him 15mil. Philly is going to want more out of this deal. That is why they balked the 1st time. With parsons signing an offer sheet and it being so late in FA, they know they have all the leverage at this point.

Plus, Lin is still a draw for Asians and any kind of attraction helps when you plan on tanking for the next couple of years tbh.

I guess... it's $8.5m they could've used on another player that's a better fit... looking at the Rockets, I can't think it will be anything but a very late 1st round pick?

Philly doing favors for all of the cap burdened teams in the league while sucking on the court for the past what, three years? And this is better than being a perennial first round loser with Iggy and Holiday?

I honestly feel sorry for Brett Brown. By the time his contract is up they MIGHT be rounding into shape a roster of "assets" that is close to decent.

Better fit for what? Tanking? Unless they wildly overpay some unnecessary FA they don't need to waste their cap space on players that might marginally help them win games this year (and ruin their shot at the highest draft pick). They should be using the cap space as they are IMO and get assets like picks (or really young high upside prospects).

Sure, they have leverage and may get more, but I don't think that if they end up with just a first rounder from HOU that it's bad. It's still good - it's just a question of how good of a deal can they possibly get. There is no bad.

Well, I think they have a good mix of young talent in a extremely weak Eastern Conference. I don't think more tanking is right for them, especially since you don't want to instill a losing at ude around your young talent. I thought maybe getting a few vets, tryt o start building something, make the playoffs. JMO.

this deal could let the Rockets get closer to keep Parsons and a max to Boush and stay near the cap.
