....if ya wanted a great....Blue Eyes Blues ...mix, here it is.

I will be starting at the origins of it all and working my way up.....

Frank Hutchison....The Train That Carried The Girl From Town. He is considered the first white blues cat.
Dock Boggs....Pretty Polly, a must listen.
Justice...Cocaine Blues....a word for word cover of Luke Jordan's classic, But since it was a race record few whites knew about Jordan.
Jimmie Rodgers....My Good Gal Gone Bad. Rodgers perfrorming with a black jug band.
Jimmie Davis....Easy Rider Blues. A one time governor of Louisiana who recorded with black guitarist Oscar Woods.
Clarence Ashley...House of the Rising Sun. Yep, the original from 1933.
Woody Guthrie with Cisco Houston....John Henry, one of the best versions.
    Hank Williams...Lonesome Whistle Blues.
Elvis...Midnight Train....great cover of a Junior Parker hit (Junior never saw a dime)

That gang would give a real good example of the origins of Paleface Blues/Blue Eyed Blues.

    Now coming up to speed....

Canned Heat....Goin' Up The Country...they got that name from a 1928 Tommy Johnson*** tune
Bob Dylan...Fixin' To Die....better than Bukka Whites original.
The Grateful Dead....Viola Lee Blues (a cover of a Gus Cannon Jug Stompers classic, funny how Viola Lee is never mentioned)
    Joe er...Blackeye Blues....talk about a beat.
Johnny Winter....Too Much Saconal....it's as if you're sitting in a little kicker bar in west Texas.
The Allman Brothers...Statesboro Blues, a great take on Blind Willie McTells classic.
ZZ Top...Just Got Back From Babys.....would be in the same jukebox with...Too Much Saconal.
Townes Van Zandt....Black Crow Blues.....fantastic song writer, another unique sound.
Kris Kristofferson.....Border Lord....he should have just sang them blues.
John Mayall....Evil Woman Blues...the king of British Blues
Savoy Brown...Cold Woman Blues....one of my favs
Johnny "Slim" Campbell....Angel of Sorrow...incredible guitarist.
    Mark Lemhouse....Paper Sack....unique sound.
Ray Wylie Hubbard...Purgatory....imagine an old Texan half drunk.

Some amazing stuff up there, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better collection of ...Pale Face/Blue Eyed blues anywhere.

Actually it was a cover of a fellow Sun recording artist named Junior Parker and I do prefer the original.

This is as good as Elvis gets, in my opinion.

    What an amazing sound.
