Update on RB Devwah Whaley of Beaumont Central (OrangeBloods):

"I haven't set one (official visit) for Texas yet. They should get one," Whaley said.

"I actually talked to coach (Charlie) Strong, coach (Tommie) Robinson (Tuesday) night. I talk to them pretty often. They say I could fit in with their offense pretty well, make a big impact right away. They tell me how bad they want me there."

"It doesn't change a whole lot, but that's pretty impressive, going out and breaking Vince Young's record," Whaley said. "That's pretty impressive. It doesn't change a lot, but Heard made a big impact with him doing that."

More on five-star LB Caleb Kelly of Fresno, CA (OrangeBloods):

"He said he's officially backing out of the Texas trip. He said it was because he really isn't interested in taking an extra science class, but he also said the Texas offer came late anyway," the source said. "I would imagine if he could get into Notre Dame, he's fine. I think probably someone told him that about the class and he believed it and that's a reason for him to drop the visit."

"Either way, I would think it would it would be a big surprise if he wound up (at Texas). I think it's Oklahoma or Michigan. He's close with Tony Perry who had a satellite camp in Fresno for Michigan. He's been to Michigan twice now. It's probably Oklahoma but I think Michigan is right there too."

Quotes from LB Jeffrey McCulloch after visiting UT for the Cal game (OrangeBloods):

“It was excellent,” McCulloch said of his visit. “They played well, but just came up a little short. After watching them this past weekend though, I would say that I definitely expect a different result when they play Oklahoma State.”

“They have my attention after last week’s game,” said McCulloch. “They surprised me with how they rebounded back after their loss to Notre Dame the first week. They’re improving quickly.”

“I’m planning on going (to Austin) in November,” he said. “I’ll be there for their game against Kansas on November 7. It’s just an unofficial, but I will be visiting.”

So the vibe with the kids is not so good. No, it's downright worrisome.

Someone tell them it's Austin, not Ann Arbor or College Station. If we can't impress on the field right now there have got to be other avenues. Are all these kids just holing up in their athletic complex and not getting out? I mean get out and walk around Waco. Visit Twin Peaks during motorcycle meetings.

2017 DT Marvin Wilson of Bellaire Episcopal talks about UT (24/7):

“I like Texas a lot,” Wilson said. “I think they have one of the best coaching staffs around, but they just have to get some players around them. With the coaching staff and the at ude they have, they will be alright.”

“I just want to see them compete, to be honest,” Wilson said. “You can forget the scoreboard. I want to see them win, but I also just want to see them improve and keep it close. I’m really interested to see what they can do.”

“I like that Texas is close to home,” Wilson said. “I like the environment down there and the people. Everybody is really approachable. The culture is changing. Everybody wants to win.”

Quotes from potential offer, 2017 WR Omar Manning of Lancaster, after visiting UT last weekend (24/7):

“It was really nice,” Manning said. “I really liked the environment. Although they didn’t come out on the winning end of things, it was still a really good game. I had a lot of fun down there. It was a great time.”

“They had more than 500 yards of offense, so it was a really good showing from them,” Manning said. “I feel like I could fit into the offense. It looks like it could be explosive, and I think they’ve found their quarterback.”

“Coach Norvell was really cool,” Manning said. “We didn’t talk to much about an offer, but he did say he wanted to see more of me. An offer would be big because I like Texas a lot. I love the tradition and all the players that have come out of there.”

I am having dejavu all over again. At this time last year we were thinking the same thing. Charlie will get this done. Let's not press the panic button. I am pumped about Big XII play. We start conference play at the right time. Things had to happen and fall into place and they have, those two losses sucked but we've known that this is not a championship team and all those 2 losses did was take us out of the playoff series. We can still win the Big XII and I honestly think that we can challenge for it. Hopefully, those freshmen defensive players are learning fast.

I'll take the Depends Diapers for Men Bowl at this point.

Kansas is the only gimme right now with the defense playing so poorly.

I like Wilson's answer. Texas needs to show improvement especially on the dline. If that improves then Texas will improve. Right now everyone in conference is 0-0, in theory Texas can win every game from here on out. In theory, but in reality we have 2 to 4 more losses in front of us. I can live with 2 any more and this team is going to regress.

I do have hope for the offense, for the first time in 2 years. I also have hope for the defense but they need to step up. I'm not happy with the job Brick has done with the dline, they are not this bad, there is some talent there, if he can't get it to perform better than this then I think a change is in order. Bring back Bo Davis or Oscar Giles.

Agree with most of your assessment. Pretty much rest of season depends on the d-line stopping the run and qb pressure. It seems as though every other position has improved from game to game except for the d-line which as you stated seems to stuck in neutral at the moment..

Texas is trotting out Texas Tech-type players, but with Bevo on the jersey, they're still getting everyone's best shot. It's not a fair fight.

Not an excuse by any means, but just an observation.

When I was at the game Saturday night, I couldn't believe over half the defense were freshmen in certain packages.

But y'all are correct that it's going to have to start with the DL getting more pressure and plugging the run.

Yep, only question now is if they'll put the heat on Madubuike and/or Chambers down the stretch, or simply do their best to lock up Fitzgerald.

Some would argue that the staff let Chambers fall by the wayside because they felt good about Madubuike.
