They're still fun and occasionally I'll boot that up and play a campaign or two. I always enjoyed building a massive army and raping some poor neighboring ers. 1 and 2 are still the best imo all the later releases pale in comparison

Yup lost much sleep playing AoE2.

I loved building up a load of long archers and destroying hard to kill enemies in one or two seconds.

Or am I thinking of another game...

RIP Ensemble Studios. Love the Age of Empires series but for me Age of Mythology is their best game just because i love the ancient mythology theme and when they released the ans expansion i was hooked. Age of Mythology is the only strategy game i've completed the campaign, solid story too.

AOE II was one of those games where an hour seemed like a few minutes and next thing you know you have been playing 3-4 hours forcing yourself to save and quit.

AoE2 was the GOAT real time strategy game. I have no idea how many hours I put into it. Some buddies and I used to play it over LAN all the time.

Yeah AOE2 and Minecraft were the two games I have played that sped time up for me. I had to stop playing both with how addicting they were. Still have never found another RTS that captivated me the way AOE2 did.

ditto. my old roommate and i would get so blown and play that game late af. i've never been a gamer but he convinced me to play AoE2 with him and we both got somewhat hooked. we recently tried the opensource version but my old roommate wasn't digging it at all although i thought it was good.

COD was pretty addicting as well... very easy to play deep into the night and lose track of time. especially during college years

aoe2 is just such a nearly perfect RTS, and has grown exponentially in popularity over the past 2-3 years, idk what to think of this
