Its the 4th of July, and also my daughter's first birthday. So, I really don't want to keep refreshing Twitter and Spurstalk all day, but I know I will. You're ruining my daughter's first birthday, Lamarcus.
Happy 4th, and happy b-day to your daughter.

i'm rewatching the Portland series from the other year...
and LMA isn't exactly flying off the screen at me.

he misses two point-blank dunks in a row in game 2!
Did you watch what he did to houston though?

Anything outside of a championship is a failure for this team. Where did I say it wasn't a "failure"? Your reasons behind last year being a failure are ing stupid and using those reasons as to why LMA won't sign here is even dumber. Basically, you're a ing moron and then calling me a homer for not supporting your stupid logic is ing idiotic too. Just turn off the computer and save us from reading your dumbass .
It was unacceptable failure, failure for no reason with Pop ing up the season in so many ways, saying what you saying is just a homer trying to deny the size of the failure and to reduce blame from Pop... You can call it dumb and idiotic but i see things in bigger perspective and know that in life there are implications for anything, to lose in so underachiever way bring more bad than other way...

You want a championship every year. It doesn't work like that. So in short, your delusions cloud your view to the point that you have a Chicken Little reaction to things which is idiotic.

LaMarcus is a very good player who lost a power struggle / popularity contest with DL to be the face of the franchise, and it meant enough for him to leave and leave a lot of money on the table. That is the one consistent whisper in the sea of rumors. If so, then being in Timmy's shadow for a few more years (and in fact forever) and sharing the franchise leadership with the up and coming Leonard (even quiet and unassuming as he is) doesn't really solve the issue he wants solved. The Suns sensed that and jumped on it with promises of LMA 'being the man" and being basketball savior to the city. It has put them in the game, when by all other measures, they shouldn't be.
This. I think it's really this simple....

Excellent take. The Suns are so desperate that they think want a guy that they have to treat that way, and the Spurs are starting to look at each other, wondering if they might be better off if he chose Phoenix. There will be other free agents, there will be other offseasons.

I watched Game 4 of the 2014 Finals last night ... it was the game van Gundy raved about the Spurs player behaviour ... everybody accountable because the stars in the team let themselves be treated by Pop as everybody else on the team. Getting role players buying into that was rather easy over the years ... but to get a superstar via Free Agency who will buy into it and himself be a role model taking Pops rage sometimes ... well, you have to be a strong character and I do not know if LMA has that quality.

Still ... I want LMA on our team because it would be nice change. Anything the Spurs do this offseason - I have my doubts we will win a championship because many new players will need to adapt. Until this happens, Duncan will be gone. Again, I want LMA because the Spurs would still be a factor and able to have memorable games and playoff series-

I want LMA because the Spurs gave up Splitter and depth for him. If we don't sign him we are endanger of being much worse. And I don't want to waste any remaining "Timmy" seasons.

Which is exactly the point I made after day 1 when he didn't choose sa outright. He either lied about why he wanted to leave or he's an idiot. Either way, it's clear that winning is not his priority. Now you have an ego issue with him and have to baby him. Thanks but no thanks. Why deal with that. Should have publicly disengaged so the rest of the nba knows that spurs don't tolerate that . Would have been a stinger message then being in our current position enabling pussy behavior

I am also not happy with losing Splitter .... he will play for a new contract soon and guess suddenly be "healthier" again. You are right, without LMA, Splitter, Belli, perhaps Manu .... we will be too thin to be relevant in the West.

The guy should have announced that he is signing with the Spurs after the second Pop meeting. But the fact that he is waiting and can't decide between the Suns and the Spurs tells me he's scared of the pressure of being the main guy after Tim leaves or he just doesn't like team basketball and doesn't like sharing the ball that much. He already ed about Lillard having the ball too much so i can't imagine what would happen here where everyone has the ball when Parker is not a selfish prick. With the Suns at least he'd have the ball all the time and could probably shoot stupid shots all the time. All i know is that this decision of his is taking too much time. Lol @ his winning talk and then deciding between the best sports team in the last 15 years and the losers from Phoenix.

I think if it were that simple, he'd be a Sun now, or a Maverick. While I definitely think Lillard being the face of the franchise has a lot to do with it, it's also because he's the face of a franchise that hasn't done anything in years. It's insulting for Lillard to get anointed (in addition to getting a much bigger contract) after LMA put in a decade of service. Damien is being far overhyped as a player and especially as a potential franchise cornerstone. Tim is a GOAT candidate, and Leonard has a fMVP and DPOY. Parker and Manu are future HoFers. It's much easier to be a JAG when that's the team you're on rather than losing out to a guy who's coming off two overrated playoff series in a row.

I think the way the Blazers have been beaten down the last two post-seasons has more to do with Aldridge leaving than Lillard outshining him does. That team was moribund even before they let so many guys walk. Even the Suns were in a better position than they were.

Let's put it this way: If Bowen didn't already have his number retired, it never would have been. Watching Kawhi and Danny eat teams alive really taints Bowen's accomplishments to anyone objective.

Face of franchise argument loses some weight in that:

1.) Lillard is one of the worst defenders in the league yet still got superstar treatment over LMA
2.) Even though it might be Tim's team, or Kawhi's, everyone gives it everything and supports others success (see entire team holding up the KLaw after Game 5 2014).
3.) Even if Suns promise franchise player status to him, what's to say he won't be supplanted by a guy like Knight?
4.) Suns loyalty? Look at how they treated Dragic.

He's leaving Portland for the simple reason that they did not get anywhere in the last two years. This was the best Portland team in a very long time.

Then you look at last season and you see equally good teams like Grizzlies, Rockets and Clippers just not even make the finals. You see very good teams like the Spurs and the Thunder fail because of injuries. Then you realize... it takes a lot more than money and good players to win it all.

Everything had to come together for the Warriors to win. (1) Depleted Cavs team. (2) Injuries to top PG defenders in all teams they faced. (3) Not facing an injury free Spurs in the playoffs. I can say the same thing about the Spurs.... avoiding Thunder and injuries to that team.

Now for the upcoming season, the Spurs still have to worry about 3 teams.... the Champs, Thunder and Rockets. The last two teams have big front lines.

Bowen was a key to a few of their runs from harassing Kobe in 03 to Billups the last few games in 05 etc., lets not forget his work in the Suns series back then as well when he would cut off Nash. I guess its easy to forget now? He also harassed Bron in those finals, he was a huge key to 3 les on that D end and hit some timely threes. One of the originsl 3D players.
