If you take into account IQ, basketball IQ, and not being a head-case, he's definitely better. He's going to face a some adjustment problems, but I've been talking about the Spurs bringing him here for a good while.

The thing I noticed about Boban is he has very soft hands, he does very well catching the ball and doing the turn and dunk, he never puts the ball on the ground when he gets position.

I'd say his athleticism is about a 2 but his fundamentals are about a 7 or 8. he has a huge body and he knows how to use it. He will be a good compliment to our PFs as they will space the floor and he can just walk up the under the basket and work the boards.

Can he learn how to play defense? Can he rebound? Can he protect the rim?

    Those are my unanswered questions.

Yeah soft touch for sure and dude can score.id like to see how he fares vs some more athletic bigs but he has crazy length plus a nice drop step down low

He won't be anywhere near Hibbert's level on defense(he's still one of the best interior defenders in the NBA), but he's probably more offensively polished(considering Hibbert is trash in every facet of offensive basketball), the comparisons aren't really valid, outside of their size, tbh..

As a 5th big, I'll be happy if he can just be a net positive in his limited minutes, shouldn't expect more from that role..

A few years ago? You mean 5 years ago in 2010? A ton can change in 5 years In 2010, sure, he was probably just a guy with freakish size. But since then, he's developed skills and is actually a basketball player, not just a 7'3" giant.

A ton HAS changed in 5 years. He was pretty rough, but he learned to ball. People who keep underestimating the Europeans still have a lot to learn. He'll have to learn about all the wrestling that goes on in the low blocks, but he's strong, not just big. He'll be fine for the amount of minutes he'll be needed this year, but he's proven that he works and learns. He could be a second string anchor by the playoffs.

I guess this puts to rest the rumors and hopes we had of a Rasho return. Oh well, hopefully this guy can build a legacy in the way Nesto did.

No, really? Try real hard, and read what I actually said.

I said Jordan is stupid, and he isn't. He'll fit into a team (especially the Spurs) a lot better than Jordan. He'll learn the system, instead of just playing center-field and swatting balls. In the sense of being a team player, and not just an athletic freak, he's better.

He'll do well here, I think.

Maybe I misinterpreted your post but it sounded like you were saying Boban is flat-out a better player than DJ, and that's what I was disagreeing with. DJ might be an idiot, but that doesn't stop him from being the best rebounder in the league, an elite PnR big, and a really solid (albeit overrated) defender. If you were just saying Boban's BBIQ is higher and not necessarily that he'll have more impact than DJ, then I agree.

Regardless, I also think Boban will do well here. He'll have some of the best coaching in the world, and will also get mentoring from one of the best bigs to ever play the game. His mobility will most likely never allow him to be a great defensive player, but if he can at least learn to be a proficient shot-blocker and shot-alterer (is that a word?), he'll end up being a really solid NBA big IMO.

Not trying to sound pessimistic ( I like the signing), but DX did a really great job pointing out his weaknesses in that video.

Its an obvious low risk - decent reward gamble by R.C/Pop ( 1 yr deal for 5th big) -- but from the looks of it, the PNR will kill him on the NBA level. Imo He's way too slow to hedge, and waaaay to slow to show any degree of containment on the ball handler and waay too slow to recover to his man rolling to the basket.

On the positive note, he looks like he can be a productive offensive role player in this league.

Positioning and reading the game will be so important to players this slow who can actually catch a ball.

Not enough vid on this. 2 million dollar project, hope David West is still bind to the numbers.

And I really don't like making light of people who have hormone problems but...

this guy needs to be studied, that extra ear flap with bilateral symmetry Is a developmental biologist's dream.

The way he shoots the ball, I want him in the second unit already.

We take Tim and LaMarcus out and put this guy on the court with Bobo?

OMG this season is gonna be so much ing fun. I dunno what we did to deserve the honor of destroying the Miami Lebrons once and for all and inevitably ing this season over for the rest of the league, but I am glad the basketball gods have found great favor for us over the past 3 or so years.

I trying not to overhype some Euro guy of which I've only seen highlights, but it's a fact that he can throw the ball in the hoop.

Baynes gave us 7 points on accident. This guy is going to look at anybody shorter than 6'11 and just shoot over them. With touch.

Oh Denny that's not Spurs fans, that's Suns fans trying to feel better about themselves.
GOLD!!! that Craig guy needs to post here on Spurstalk.... think Pop can get him to sign onto this site?
