Even funnier now when he won the FMVP.![]()
Well I thought he made a lot of bonehead plays in the game and seems to lack pace. Not sure if Hammon purposely playing point during game but at times he drove head first and got into trouble that usually ended up in a bad shot or pass. He didn't really create offense or help the offense while he held ball unlike Anderson that always seemed to make correct pass or post and pass. There was at least two sequences where he made 1) a skip pass to Anderson that was stolen and 2) also a pass at midcourt that was easily taken away. Fortunately, he was able to recover and block shot.
If Simmons continues to make those kind of mistakes I can see Pop pulling him out quickly from a game.
Manu gonna Manu tbh.![]()
He looks more like a guy who needs to be taught at the moment of error. He might get the Manu treatment from Pop. Manu knew not to commit the same mistake again, but Pop reinforced this by pointing it out or showing an alternative play. I think Simmons is just lacking some serious coaching and a long period of good health.
I like Simmons' energy and hustle. Isiah Thomas was saying that Simmons brought much needed energy every time he attacked the basket or made a defensive play for the team. At least we know he isn't hesitant. He has that toughness and grit that every team needs.
But we should trade Green and Diaw for him!
This tbh
Zeke even said during the broadcast that he looks out of control, but he's not.
I think Pop's gonna love Simmons.
Reality check here, Spurs had only two players that could create a play. Anderson's game is more deliberate so he can avoid making errors. Simmons is based on speed and athleticism. In this game, Simmons had to force the action, nobody else could do it. So if there were any bad plays, then that's just the risks he had to take. But look at his numbers as compared to Anderson. He really took ownership of this game and won it for the Spurs.
He's just had two years of good coaching under the Spurs, so he's going to improve. Spurs FO hit jackpot again! Simmons performance beat out all the top 30 draft picks that played in SummerLeague. Remember, Simmons is coming into the league as a rookie, let that digest for a moment.
Wow, I didn't realize that he scored this well.
Virtually unstoppable! 38" vertical, can go with either hand, with a euro step and the ability to pass in traffic. A more athletic Ginobili.
Needs to improve his mid-range jump shot and 3 point shooting, but otherwise a better slasher than Green or Leonard will ever be.
Also, look again at the stats, he has more assists than Kyle Anderson. Why? Because he commands a double team. KA you can run single coverage, so even when he passes, the receiver is usually covered.
I like him a lot too but let's see how he does going up against actual NBA players first. I think that he still has to tighten up his ball handling a bit to be an effective slasher.
For now I would be totally happy if he can consistently bring energy on defense, hit the occasional spot up 3 and attack off the dribble against closeouts.
But I have to say that I'm already looking forward to see what he can do on nights where Manu sits.
I can't wait for those "Many should've retired", "Pop needs to play Simmons over Many", an "He's sooo much better than Manu" threads. I'm sure they're coming.
really like what i saw from him last night. he's quick, can stop on a dime and change direction. he's determined when he drives to the basket, explosive when he gets there. and can pass.
Against NBA players? There were 4 NBA players on the Sun's roster. Alex Len is 7'1", Simmons was just attacking the rim and Len couldn't stop him.
Okay, I should have said 'experienced' NBA players.
Calm down beaner. Let's not eat ourselves into a coma in celebration just yet.
He's a nice looking prospect who hasn't played a single minute in a real NBA game...nothing more or less.
Simmons is a rookie. You want to see him matched up against seasoned NBA players?
He's better than NBA players that have been in league for 3 or less years, isn't that good enough for now?
Calm down dude. You just said he is a better slasher than Kawhi. lol.
I'm not expecting him to do the same things against better compe ion. It's just much more useful to evaluate a guy in an NBA game rather than the chaotic Summer League.
No, he's right.
No...he's not. Simmons clowned in what amounts to a DLeague tournament. Danny or Kawhi would have went for 30 per game and could have gotten to the rim just as easily. He's plenty good enough to get the guaranteed deal he got, but it's all wait and see beyond that.
Reality check:
Danny Green wouldn't be able to create for himself to score. You over exagerrate Danny Green's capabilities in offense.
Manu was an MVP in Europe.
