I wonder if Simmons is just over-amped for this game because of the contract or if he always plays with this intensity. He plays close to being out of control sometimes, but its better than being too cool and unfocused.
I definitely buy the story that Simmons is wildly inconsistent. If he played this solidly all the time I can't imagine he'd be available off the scrap heap. He will probably have games where he lights the world on fire and follow them up with ghost games (or high TO games if his stats are to be believed). Just have to reign him in and focus him.
If that ends up being the case, it's not that surprising lol. You realize Simmons is 25 and Anderson is 21 right? Simmons also has two years playing with the Spurs D-League team as well. Guy didn't just get picked up off the street or something.
Im getting that you are overvaluing his defensive worth, especially when getting beat in Summer-League when trying to prove he is NBA material. Take it down about 3 notches and you will survive.

Simmons had a rather unorthodox path to the NBA. If he had stuck with a college team instead of bouncing around he'd of been in the NBA a few seasons ago.
He actually kind of did, tbh.
