The West was stacked last year. We played like most of the year and still we were in the top seeding. Had we won our last game of the year we would have been ranked I think second in the West. I doubt our record is going to be that ty this year so we really don't have much to worry about I don't think.

There are going to be a lot of situations were a game is basically winnable but Pop looks at the long game not each individual game. If you don't know that by now you don't really pay attention.
Yea, I know that, and there were a few things learned from this game. Besides Kawhi playing like an MVP on both ends, everyone else has stuff to work with. Diaw and Manu played well, but Diaw-West doesn't work. I am questioning whether Pop should split TD/LMA a little bit and mix and match with Diaw/West or just give minutes to Boban tbh.

It was a good game TBH. OKC is the real deal, have to say it. We have our own stuff to clean up. Maybe split TD and LMA when is appropriate, maybe throw some Boban there. Can't believe Dion Waiters, Kanter, killed us. You can count on Westbrook to be a beast, but the "others" did it tonight.
It was typical Dion Waiters: feast of famine. Kanter did what he usually does but Porker not attacking him on the switches was pathetic. He's basically the white Amare, you have to expose him on defense to mitigate his offense output. The Spurs starting backcourt in general was pathetic.

I just glad all of Pop's shyt decision blew up in his face:
-Posting up LMA instead of pick-n-pops
-Putting Tony on Westbrook who dominated him & not being able to hide him on anyone of the opposing players
-Not putting Manu in the game at the end of the game in favor of Danny which resulted in a terrible crunch time execution
-Not playing either LMA, Tim or even Boban alongside Diaw or West which resulted in Kanter owning the offensive glass or a layup line
No idea why Pop thought this was a good idea. Westbrook has been abusing poor Tony for quite a while now. Absolutely wrecked him in the 2014 Conference Finals. Frenchie should never be guarding Russell.

The Boris/West combo underneath on D is not gonna hack it against junk men like Kanter.
This is where we miss Tiago.

Pg is a definite concern on D.

The forced prayers by Green, KL, and Aldridge when some movement was needed is disturbing.
overall I think we can work through this.

    We ok.

West is even harder this year with the Warriors, Clippers, Thunder and Rockets all improving. Assuming we will have a better record than last year with a bunch of new parts is a big and silly assumption. Every game needs to be taken seriously, the "long game".

    Anderson sucks tbh IMO fwiw
LOL. Where is that poster from a couple of days ago that said he's going to be better than Kawhi when it's all said and done. Kyle has no chance to be better than Kawhi because of his lower ceiling on defense.

What makes Kawhi have great potential is that he's a two way player. That's why Tim Duncan is a top 5 player of all time. Tim was great on defense and great on offense. Kawhi, right now, is great on defense and a still improving - very good on offense, and going off of tonight, if Kawhi keeps improving his offense to this level throughout the season, he's a top 5 player in the NBA.

Same reason why Pop was content with Diaw and West getting their crap pushed in on the boards. He doesn't care.

Pop FIRMLY believes that Porker has to guard his man for 3 quarters no matter who he's guarding.

I think Bobo and David West will work just fine as long as David West doesn't continue to pass up open looks. He is an offensive threat and that's how he needs to be used. The same is true for LaMarcus Aldridge. Too many times tonight he passed up wide open looks to differ just trying to fit into the Spurs way of quick ball movement. Thats something Pop is going to have to deal with though. You cannot expect guys to transition to his way of doing things especially known talent like that. You have to hybrid the entire system so that your newly acquired talent can prosper.

Better to have him foul out doing something positive rather than having BOTH backcourt players being a net negative.

So you want Parker on Westbrook at the end of the game.

    No. Say no.

Way too early to say that IMO. You have to remember, Boris/West didn't get much burn at all in the pre-season. It will take time to adjust. I agree there are somethings that we know (defense will likely suffer with them, rebounding might be an issue) but overall it's early and they are talented. Plus, there will be lineups where they make a lot more sense. OKC just tough

    I
despite the occasional Turnobili, you're going to miss Manu's smarts and playmaking in crunchtime

Exactly, call me a homer but I'd rather die by a ginobili screw up than Parker. Parker was a massive detriment to the team in crunch time.

    My biggest criticisms are

    1) Small lineup with West and Diaw playing at the same time = rebounding. We have three 7 footers on the team. Use them.

    2) The offense was reduced to nothing but isolating Leonard or Aldridge at the end. As good as they are, that's not a winning style of offense.

The game was taken very seriously - just because Pop tried some new things doesn't mean it was not serious. It's a lot of new pieces. Pop can't just bail on things in the first half of the first game. It was a tough loss against a tough team on the road. This was not some scheduled win that everyone is shocked the Spurs lost.

Then don't read it. Simple as that.. There are a lot of rotations that don't work yet but you don't stick with it when it's not yield results during an in game scenario especially when the other teams best players are not on the court and you're just trading shots and not building a bigger lead. No, you save those adjustments for practice when you can pull them aside and tell them this is what you have to do when you're both on the court at the same time.

Lots of working parts and not enough time in game scenarios to allow for them to kind of find their way in a game.

He didn't really bail on anything until the last 6 minutes of the game. Up until then there was quite a bit of ball movement, then it went to a bunch of iso stuff.

Spurs need a legit PG soon though.. The writing is on the wall
Schroder is knocking on our door.... but I doubt we could get it done, and he's still too young, not ready for the role. Has potential though. Still, its not happening. Wishful thinking.

Had the opening game been against the 76ers everyone would be talking about how we are going to be undefeated this season. We could have even played worse and that would still be the main theme on the front page.

Agree with 1) but we can get away with it against some teams.

    2) is very disturbing

    On the same page.

Yup. In fact, based on what I saw tonight, I would not be suprised if SA gets off to an 8-2 start which is fantastic.
