It was obvious that he was treating it like a scrimmage & not too worried about losing the game. The fact he had to call two timeouts to setup the final play & them blowing it means there will be more scrimmage games coming up.![]()
man, parker looks done. but even with that, spurs look scary. this will be a good year

Curry might drop 100 on Tony if Pop leave him on an island & shut him down on the other end.
I'm ecstatic about how the Spurs played tonight. If that's how they played in their first REAL game, on the road, against a quality opponent, there's nothing but upside.
As cringe-worthy as Kobe's contested jumpers and KG's fake tough guy routine are, I figured I'd tear myself away to evaluate the game.
KL: Kid's good. Defensive juggernaut. Could have sprinkled an assist or two in. He'll get better when he realizes that he should only be taking those jumpers off the dribble when they're going in. Too bad he couldn't find his way to checking Durant when it mattered.
Duncan: Just transitions into the ultimate glue guy. Four blocks. Holy .
Parker: Didn't play great, but I'm not terribly worried. He can still get to the rim when he wants to, and at his age, I'm fine if he saves as many of those for later in the season.
Manu: Had his moments, but for some reason he went weak to the basket a number of times, rendering a great performance as just pretty good. He'll learn where people are.
DWest: Didn't look great, but if the worst thing to take from this is that he'll need some time to figure out where he fits, then I'm okay with it.
Green and Mills: Gotta hit em when they're open.
Pop: Got outcoached by a rookie. Scott Brooks ain't in the house no more.
Game Plan: F. In a game where you come out thinking that suddenly switching the pick and roll with four minutes to go is the second most ing re ed thing to happen, you know you've got a problem. If you were to scout the Thunder, you'd probably say that the post defense by Ibaka and Adams was their strength. The Spurs went at their strength way too many times and didn't do anything else. What happened to good shot to great shot? I was really expecting the ball movement of last year's Spurs with Lamarcus' offense. I hope that's the way they go as the season progresses, because this looks like ing four down with just random guys that aren't hot forcing jumpers.
Random thought from tonight: Have a better record than OKC this year. 11 FTA through three quarters, 11 FTA in the fourth. You don't want a game 7 in their building.
I expect ball movement to improve. The team is still adjusting to new personnel. Id like to see Green getting better looks.
Spurs played their butts off. Didn't come away with a win, but it was a of a performance. It's obvious the guys worked hard in the off-season.
That was a new Kawhi we saw tonight. Takes guts to play like that. If you win, you're great. If you lose, people call you a bum. That was probably the most complete game Leonard has ever played. Superb!
Parker looked really good. Guarding Westbrook is an extremely unenviable job.
Manu was outstanding! Excellent start to the season for him.
Green made some tough shots. The last one was a rough one. If he makes it we worship him. Adams closed out and made a great effort.
LaMarcus probably got some jitters out. Change is difficult. He played a very mature game. Seemingly recognized Leonard had it going on. What a weapon Aldridge is.
Timmy showed up in shape and ready to play.
Mills gave a great effort.
Anderson had some wow moments.
West is going to be an awesome addition.
Boris played a great game.
The adage is "make someone else beat you". Kawhi did a fantastic job on KD and poured in his new career high in scoring by the way (as it were).
Waiters beat us. Kanter beat us. It was a rebound here and there shy of a victory.
OKC had more fire in their guts, but not by much. Spurs played pretty composed basketball...especially the first three quarters. Leonard looked gassed. He did it all.
First game of the year...significantly different roster...road game against a damn good team.
I'm proud of the guys. Time to regroup. Take it one game at a time. This is going to be a great squad. Thank you Spurs!

This. Missed a lot of good looks too and gave up a ton of points on the paint, which I'm sure they'll correct with time. All in all, played much better than I expected.
What's the best place to watch postgame coverage/interviews? Does NBA.com archive that stuff? I think I need to do some Googling.
We gunna have some fun with this team. Really surprised just how good we played.
hahah- sad but not far from the truth. luckily you guys have kiwi and green to rotate off on curry and klay. part of the reason why spurs are a terrible match up for gsw. that and now lma (assuming he finds his groove in the system, which he will)

Transition defense was a big concern after watching the Spurs get chopped up in the preseason. They were really good tonight. That and taking care of the ball will keep you in most games.
Also, gotta grab a god damn defensive rebound in the fourth quarter, guys.
god I am pissed about this loss ...
Kawhi - solid game, but too dedicated on offense leading to no defensive plays in crunch time
LMA - good first half, but absolutely useless in crunch time
TD - holds the ball too long on the perimeter, but his help defense is still awesome ... old as too, so he gets a pass
TP - still has some speed, but cannot be hidden on defense against good teams, OKC looked for Waiters who scored two buckets against him ...
Manu - three typical turnovers leading to fast breaks ... old as too so he was alright I guess
Boris - get in shape man
West - a foul machine ... only good thing he did was shoving Kanter at the end of the first half
Kyle - two nice buckets in the first half, but if he continues to miss the corner three he will be a goner ...
Patty - he scored, but it was here or there and not the huge scoring booster from 2 years ago .. I miss that
Green - god, that icy/hot shtick is getting old .. can he just make 3/7 threes every game ... bad execution in the play designed for him in the end
Pop - making a play for Danny in the end was an awful decision ... hopefully he gets Boban into the rotation ... Kanter would not score that easily against him
You do realize you are the worst poster on here, correct?
The end of the beautiful game, TBH. Kawhi was fantastic, but this Melo-light offense and with the very bad using of LMA really makes our offense look like the Brown-led Lakers with Kobe posting up over and over again.
That's a compliment from a dumbass like you........go lick some balls
This team need a trade or two, the bench is filled with old, helf done, one side players...
Strangely enough Dallas is the only team in the Southwest Division with a win. Who'd have thought that.
Need every W, but they did very well for a team learning to play together.
Pop hates going into overtime... this is early in the season... no need to worry about losing this game. I kind of expected that Spurs would attempt a 3.
Good summary.
The team has so much options in offense that I wonder if Leonard is just doing too much.
KA can pretty much score against any small guard. He however needs to improve his catch and shoot and he needs to figure out what to do when isolated against a quick guard.
Diaw is really under-rated in this team. Guy was shooting 3's, posting up, blocking shots.
Manu is playing great, but too many forced attempts.
West and Aldridge need to know that if they are caught in an awkward uncomfortable spot that they should just pass it out instead of forcing an awkward shot.
Spurs need a better PG defender than Parker. Maybe Manu or maybe someone else can step up to the plate.
Anyway... good game to start the season. Looks like OKC and Spurs are ready. OKC may have made the right move of paying Kanter. It gives them a good scoring option on the 2nd team.
Durant and Westbrook played a lot of minutes. Pop didn't even care to put Green on Westbrook. This would make sense, but he may be treating this like a practice game.
Patty will let Westbrook into the lane every time because he ball pressures until he gets his socks faked off. Manu... that's torture. You act like having those two on the floor at one time makes ONE HYBRID defender. That's so misguided, just like your point total non solution. The idea is too have Parker merely stay in front of people with a lot of help. This is very difficult. So yeah I see the Parker problem, but I don't see a nice solution from you. Like its so obvious what needs to be done. If this is the playoffs, I think you see Green on him more often, But not the whole game. Don't matter, this is a very tough matchup, especially if Westbrook passes once in a while as this really screws the help.
I do not worry, but I hate losing ... especially to that antic heavy OKC team ...
