That was the worst basketball team ever assembled by the US, tbh. Even a prime MJ would have a hard time putting a team with Iverson and Marbury, two of the biggest cancers in basketball, on his back. Good thing the '08 reincarnation just one one prime cancer (Kobe) to deal with. Also, not sure how the '08 would be able to beat a prime '04 Argentina squad.

My takeaways here would be:
1. Kobe played a role player type of role in 2008 by feeding off double teams on Lebron and Wade. This isn't surprising because he's used to this type of role his entire career.
2. Duncan had vastly superior numbers in 2004 despite playing in the worst assembled US team of all time. He just had the misfortune of playing against a prime Argentina team, which would give even the '92 US team fits.
3. Lebron is really a transcendent talent as evidenced by the performance in 2008. 20 years from now, people will still talk about what a great two-way player he really is.

Look at the way it was constructed and you had Iverson and Marbury as PG's who had no outside shot basically. They lacked shooters and it was just a horribly constructed team IMO. When Kidd, Kobe and Shaq etc. dropped out you are looking at a huge loss and they would have won an easy gold IMO if everyone goes. That is the truth.
Lebron surely was not Lebron yet and Wade was not Wade yet as we know them, another factor.
