It be smart to wait until December for the contract extension. It will help with recruiting momentum if he didn't have the season that we all expected. There will be a bunch of rumors flying around if Strong doesn't succeed in 2016, a contract extension will shut them down.
In other news, Higdon thinks that we don't keep Newman because of the OL haul this summer.
Bobby Burton 24/7-
Please do the world a favor. Do not forget.
Do not forget why the Longhorns were able to add offensive lineman Patrick Hudson to its 2016 recruiting class.
While most of the talk today will be of recruiting and the addition of Hudson, the larger focus should not stray from the victims and the cir stances that brought us to this point. Society can not lose sight of the greater problem that led to this -- the out-of-control culture on the Baylor football team.
I know this is a sports message board. And things like sexual assault are not what I'm paid to comment on. Yet I feel I have a responsibility to stand up and say what I believe.
Things like what transpired at Baylor are what happens when good people turn a blind eye, when people don't raise a stink soon enough or perhaps when they allow themselves to be bullied out of speaking up.
To me, no person is bigger or more important than another, not in the eyes of humanity.
So while Pat Hudson certainly means more to the Texas football team, he doesn't mean more to humanity as a whole than any of the multiple women who were assaulted in Waco.
Somehow. Some way. Just don't forget.
Because if society as a whole (more than just the folks at Baylor) doesn't learn from this, history is destined to repeat itself.

Was the baseball coaching search botched?
That seems to be the consensus in the media. But I don't have a strong enough opinion on the topic to say if it was or wasn't.
Here's what I know that no one I know of has published thus far:
Texas came within an inch of getting Vandy's Tim Corbin more than a week ago. Corbin was Texas' first choice and first call.

Does Charlie Strong's recruiting success potentially buy him more time if the Horns have less-than-expected production on the field this year?
I'm told the answer is yes. With appropriate caveats.
1. The decision makers want to see if these recruits actually live up to the hype to determine if there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. In other words, are these recruits really as good as Strong and staff are portraying them to be?
2. The decision makers want to see more points scored from the offense, at least the start of something that looks like it can and will compete nationally in due time.
In January, I would have told you that Strong probably needed to win eight to keep his job. I think that number is still a safe bet. I think Texas should win at least that many this season.
But I could see seven wins being enough if those other pieces of the puzzle are also in place.
Given the talent on hand and its relative youth, Texas is setting itself up for a serious run at a Big 12 le in 2017.
Higs may be onto something-
Yeah, I personally wouldn't mind him getting an extension now but I know it won't happen until the end of the season for logical reasons. I just feel pretty confident in his ability going forth, but that's a good point about us using that extension as momentum if we have a bad season.
Charlie cannot afford a bad season. He has to win. If he doesn't win this year, there will be a new coach. I love the guy, but thems the breaks.
Do you think he survives a 7 win season with a bowl loss?
That's doubtful... unless some of those losses have some extremely big "moral victories" included. That's just my take.
it was more than botched..............it was a complete fail...................8 coaches turned down texas.............texas settled............patterson lands the top priority hands down
Yes. His judgement season should be 2017, not 2016.
Seven is that borderline mark I'm focusing on, especially if he doesn't perform in the big games like Notre Dame, OU, Baylor and TCU.
Boosters want to see points, the defense get back to being a typical Strong defense and no more blowouts.
With a young team, and if beuch gets the starting job.....7 wins might be acceptable, if they lose to good teams by 1 score, and blow out the other teams. Also, the offense shows growth and positive consistency as the season progresses. Our ST is no longer special ed. Our D gets lots of pressure on the QB, forces turnovers, and gets key stops.
Yo hoe!
He ate our damn steaks at Vince's, it's the least could do.
Hopefully Charlie Succeeds. Everything is in place. If he doesn't at least Herman is right down the road.

Great get for them. He could've backed up Shack or taken over his spot if Shack doesn't pan out. We desperately need someone who can play center this class. Newman may not even be an option anymore.
Scout saying DE Erick Fowler will not be enrolling for the second summer session.
The best he can hope for now is getting to Austin for fall practice.
Going to be waiting a long, long time. Baylor must respect the privacy of the vict...
Lol. Just kidding. But seriously, that report ain't ever coming out.
