Very efficient game for Jimmer. His streak of scoring 30 in all four games would've continued had he hit his final three, too. But 28 on only 17 shots against "the college defender of the decade," Aaron Craft at any rate.

Great court vision; played within the flow of the offense very well. An NBA team would do well to nab this guy.

And it's on to the semis, es!

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ared-sullinger

Jimmer Fredette made a habit of upsetting more talented, higher-seeded teams during his days at BYU.
More than seven years after his final game in Provo, he's at it again.
Fredette had 28 points and seven assists, while Jack Cooley added 16 points, as Team Fredette earned a 100-78 win over top-seeded Scarlet & Gray to advance to the semifinals of the 2018 Basketball Tournament.
Defended by Aaron Craft throughout the contest, Fredette took on a more passive at ude than he did in his 41-point explosion against the Fort Wayne Champs in the previous round. He took advantage of the focus of the defense on his scoring to help set up teammates and create hockey assists that led to easy baskets.
Team Fredette spent most of the afternoon shooting over 60 percent from the floor and moving the ball well against a Scarlet & Gray team that played poorly.

Facing the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional, second-seeded Team Fredette knew it could not afford another slow start in The Basketball Tournament, a $2 million winner-take-all event involving 72 teams across the country.

Leading almost the entire way, the team led by former BYU star Jimmer Fredette rolled to an easier-than-expected 100-78 win over an Ohio State-based team known as Scarlet & Gray in a TBT quarterfinal game at Georgia State University’s Sports Arena in Atlanta.

“We knew a better start [than three previous games] was important, especially against this team,” Fredette said. “We knew that if we got down in a hole, in would be really tough to get back.”

Fredette scored 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting and former Utah Jazz center Jack Cooley added 16 points and eight rebounds as Team Fredette silenced former Buckeyes Aaron Craft, Jared Sullinger and Greg Oden.

The victory pushed Team Fredette into the semifinals in Baltimore on Thursday. It will play the winner of Team Challenge ALS and Eberlein Drive at The Fieldhouse on the campus of Morgan State University.

Team Fredette took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter after Jimmer made a jumper to beat the first-quarter buzzer, and had a 51-40 lead at halftime.

The BYU-based team that also features former Cougars Brandon Davies and Charles Abouo led by as many as 23 points in the second half.

“We played together and shared the ball,” Fredette told ESPN. “That’s what we try to do. We got all these guys for a reason. These guys can play.”

Cooley was a late addition to the team, first joining it for a Super 16 game last Friday.

“We controlled the whole game,” Fredette said. “Jack down low, Brandon down low, [they] controlled the boards, got out in transition, and were able to make shots. … It was a whole team effort.”

Cooley marvels at how TBT opponents have been unable to slow down Fredette, who’s leading the tournament with 32.8 points and multiple classic Jimmer shots a game.
“Other teams’ entire strategy is to stop him, and it doesn’t help,” Cooley said. “The way he gets the offense, the way he creates, the way he helps his teams is just fantastic. Our team is built around him.”

And, yes, Cooley believes Fredette belongs in the NBA.
“There’s no way there’s 300 people better than him in basketball. No way,” Cooley said. “I absolutely think he should be in the NBA. … I don’t think there’s a team that has 15 guys better than him. I don’t see it.”

Jimmer was jimmerin'. But his team was too sloppy for large stretches and they lost to an inferior team. Sad.

Eberlein Drive took a double-digit lead early in the final quarter, and then Jimmer-mania took over. Fredette led his team on a 13-2 run to even the tally, and he scored eight points in less than a minute.
Fredette finished with 24 points, shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range.
It reached a point where Eberlein Drive coach David Nurse told his players to focus on the 6'2" guard and not let him find his rhythm. And Eberlein Drive followed those instructions—until the fourth.

Jimmer played efficiently against a defensive scheme designed to throw defenders at him or otherwise smother him; he was still hot in the fourth when the team needed to comeback. The team was too complacent in the rest the game. They beat at least two better teams before that, imo.

I dunno if any NBA team gonna sign Jimmer or not. NBA GMs are averse to a spotlight. Many would not sign Jimmer even if they thought the team would be better.
