House cats convulsed from drinking the water. Migratory tundra swans suffered slow deaths as their digestive tracts seized up from lead poisoning, causing both suffocation and starvation as undigested food backed up into their long necks. Children in the Silver Valley in the 1970s registered some of the highest levels of lead in their bloodstreams recorded anywhere.

allow schools to make it harder for survivors to prove they experienced a sexual assault.

give students accused of sexual misconduct the right to cross-examine their accusers in a live hearing, through a lawyer or other adviser.
The rules would also
allow schools to raise the standard of proof that an alleged incident occurred.
Schools wouldn’t have to act on accusations of sexual harassment unless they were “severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive” enough to interfere with a student’s ability to access an education.

White House calls for end of electric vehicle subsidies
National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow on Monday said the White House wants to put an end to subsidies for electric cars and renewable energy sources.
Under federal law, consumers who purchase plug-in electric vehicles receive tax credits worth $2,500 to $7,500, and
"as a matter of our policy, we want to end all of those subsidies," Kudlow said.
"And by the way,
other subsidies that were imposed during the Obama administration, we are ending,
whether it's for renewables and so forth."
The plan is to end the subsidies by 2020 or 2021, he added.
