Anyway, my comment was about Anderson not knowing who to sub in for lol. Sure Pop may have been an ass about it but come on.. That's a question you asked in JV ball ,who you're supposed to sub in for. He's been here a couple years, Pop had the entire starting lineup out there with Parker @ the line. He, Simmons, and Joel Anthony were checking in. Seems like something he should be able to figure out.
I missed the tidbit about him since I watched the 76ers broadcast. At the time of hte sub they were instead showing Brett Brown upset at a foul called on one of his guys on Tony Parker.

I don't care about the tidbit, it's actually Pop's abrasive asshole like personality often being overlooked bc he's a brilliant coach. There is no doubt in my mind only reason he gets away with being that muych of an asshole is the success he's had. He's indeed an asshole so frequently that it is actually laughable that you hold him beyond reproach at this point with his people skills. And everyone should be fair game to criticism... he's not God.

heh and God is not beyond criticism depending who you ask.

Well, what we think of him and how the players respond to him are quite different. You can call him an asshole all you want, the players love playing for him and guys in front offices around the league have nothing but positive things to say. Probably because what we see is different than what happens behind the scenes.

i guess I defend him the same way u defend Anderson. He gets so much crap that you feel you need to defend him no matter what. It just gets tiresome hearing the same story sometimes. I know Pop makes mistakes obviously. I'm just one who believes sometimes it's also on the players to actually perform. I also know how he likes to experiment with the lineups people often cry about, without having the big picture in mind.

Funny to just come across this today. Seems relevant

“Young players have to learn that team goals are more important,” Popovich said. “Whatever you do individually, you have to lead toward that. Sometimes lessons have to be given in that sense.”

It wasn’t the first time this season Popovich gave Murray a quick hook.

In a way, Murray hopes it isn’t the last.

“If he didn’t want to coach me and just threw me out there, it would say something to me that he’s not trying to teach me,” said Murray, a 20-year-old out of the University of Washington. “I think it’s real important for him to be able to coach me.”

So much I could reply to this but frankly I don't have the desire. I admire him as much as the next fan but he's far from perfect and the way he is rude will make others tune him the out.

If you have a coach who is an asshole all the time (asking Pop what do you want me to do is a reason to be un culo honestly? Really that's fine?) lol. That quote has nothing to do with the subject.

I didn't see it.... above in this thread Nono made reference to something he observed in the game. Maybe I should not have commented on it bc in the broadcast I watched they didn't show it....scroll up to Nono part couple of posts.

Yea I have nothing against Brooklynfan... he's good people but he's gone off subject in his comments and I don't want to go around the world and back about it.... covering the span of Pops career and finishing with Dijon having to learn to play a team game... which has nothing to do with the incident.

It's really not about being rude. It's about his expectations of the guys he's coaching. He expects guys to know who they are checking in for. His demands are much higher than your average coach.

But again, you claim he's rude but there's a long list of players who would love to play for him, and a long list of teams who would want him. Most who actually interact with him know he's not an ass or rude or whatever

I respect your opinion and I know how it seems but I just think his rudeness is overblown . Imho

It's very simple really... Kyle has legit played 3 spots this season.... not even garbage time we are talking about here. Asking what Pop wanted is a perfectly reasonable question.... you make it seem like Kyle is stupid... Others don't have to ask bc they pretty much play just the one spot. It's a far legit question... it seems to me Pop didn't give a damn what he was doing out there. If it was important he would have said. It didn't matter bc it was garbage time.

we can go around in circles about it too. But the Spurs keep their stuff in house. It's pretty well known that even Tim had his quarrels with Pop. He's far from perfect dude.

Nah... if he actually cared, he would have pulled him aside and told him.
It's not unfair to say Kyle spaced a bit and Pop didn't think much of it, being the situation it was, though.

Maybe that article was out of context, but some have felt Pop was in the wrong or a jerk for pulling Murray like he has been.

My point in sharing that is realizing that the player actually appreciates being coached like that. So the perspective from the casual fan on here is quite different than that of the player or those who interact.

It's naive... he's basically blaming Kyle asking a question for Pop either 1. Being an ass or 2. Not caring bc it was garbage time and he just wanted to get it over with. He didn't care if Kyle went in there and said ok I am the PG now.

    I totally agree with that.
Murray's got a good at ude, he just needs to project onto the court when he gets dem minutes.
It's going to take a minute... he's young, but he's got the tools and he's got the talent.

This isn't about Murray or Kyle being uncoachable Bklyn. Prettier quotes and statements than that I could cite about Pop and Kyle both... it's just not what the subject is about.

But when did I say he's perfect?

Having a disagreement with a coach about a game plan or scheme or what have you is fine. But it's more about you saying he's an ass because of the Anderson thing.

He has high expectations . He expects guys, especially guys who have been here a couple years to know simple things. There's nothing wrong with him holding guys to a higher standard for the simplest of things, wouldn't you agree?

Now game plan, subs, lineups,etc... Sure, I get all that. I would bet TD didn't have issues with him because of something so simple as TD not knowing who to sub in for.

Agreed. Glad to see he isn't sensitive to tough coaching, cause so many young guys come into this league feeling en led

I remember Pop just destroying a young Tony, in games, constantly, but it was because he needed him to learn and learn fast and Pop thought he could handle it.
He was effing right, wasn't he?

Now his eye casts it's gaze upon young Murray...
Let's hope it's even more successful.

It doesn't matter... It's the coach job to assign roles... asking to make sure is no offense. I will stop here bc I didn't see the skit. You are clearly a Pop apologist and care not when he's being an asshole bc of your rose colored glasses. That's fine.

    Hmm...
I really don't want to dislike your at ude towards the guy who helped guide this franchise to 5 effing les with a tiny franchise that nobody wanted to go to. And while Duncan was the instrument that sang, Pop was the conductor.
Look at the coaches before him, and the guy he specifically fired and replaced:
Bob Hill, John Crackhead Lucas, Jerry ing Tarkanian... the list goes on.
Just failure after failure and Pop comes in with his D is 1st philosophy and adjusts his offense as the decades and personnel goes by...
He plays head games and strictly disciplines his players and they develop their Spurs Culture... Now it's ingrained. Players want to be reigned in and coached by Pop.

And all the while all players, except for Captain Jack, love him...

Think that happens with a Larry Brown?

I am getting sick of this Pop garbage. He is a ing GREAT coach and deserves the praise he gets.

Until I see players (besides Rodman) tuning him out... you no talky to me.

The twice thing you made up.. in fact it wasn't clear from what Nono said that assignment weee even spelled out... since I didn't see the skit. I am already tired of this... but in the course of making excuses for Pop you labeled Kyle stupid, stated he got told twice what to do ...went off subject repeatedly etc and admitted your rose colored glasses for Pop. I am tired of the conversation bc you have changed topics, goalposts, lines of reasoning and made stuff up plus added your bias....

. Larry Brown didn't last long anywhere bc he burned out his players and eventually they tuned him out. Pop is kind off camera, so we are told and he genuinely cares about guys... again this wasn't about this... or about Pops entire career, etc....
