Or go 16 deep per conference and top four vote getters overall get the captain teams and pick playground style.
8 minute games against each of other three teams with ties allowed so no OT. Each team plays 24 minutes guaranteed then, and top two teams play in a final (based on W-L record and H2H or points as tie breaker). Solves issue of (1) getting more players into game and (2) makes whole game somewhat more compe ive, while not adding too many minutes to game.
