White House Signals Acceptance of Russia Sanctions Bill

The White House indicated on Sunday that President

Trump would accept new legislation curtailing his authority to lift sanctions on Russia on his own,

a striking turnaround after a broad revolt by lawmakers of both parties who distrusted his friendly approach to Moscow and sought to tie his hands.

the first time that Congress, with both houses controlled by fellow Republicans, has forced its will on Mr. Trump on a major policy matter.

But Mr. Trump found himself in a no-win position, as lawmakers eager to punish Russia for its interference in the election and its aggression toward its neighbors dispensed with the usual partisan divide.

“It’s very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back,

do very little to protect their President.”

The ONLY way I'd put my name on this legislation is to veto it. Lifting sanctions is the President's province. To conspire with Congress to prohibit himself from doing so would be a huge mistake.

    P.S., where is everybody?

Yes, I should have looked it up before I brought it over here.

Even the quote substantiation is up to question.

    Sorry about that.

Eh, thanks for posting the picture of her with John Doar. I remember that guy was a real hero before any of that Watergate stuff.

    Trump president, not Clinton.

The world that actually enjoys a resemblance of reality knew Hillary always played the boundaries of truth and that the Clintons have essentially made themselves rich thru politics. The NY Times let the landslide begin on the Clinton foundation.

The way I see it she was your kind of gal; ready to dominate you into a submissive fetal position. You want an authoritative master so....

The Russian situation WOULD GO AWAY if a couple of dozen of people would tell the Fckn truth.
But nooooooo, never admit. Communicate thru lying. So now the Cheeto has produced a special counsel ready to stomp them for more than things Russian.

A WH full of lying thieves and Trump wants the leaks to go away... ?
Good luck with that ya damn fool.
You want loyalty amongst lying money s, holy mother of God...

I'm sticking with the story that Pootin/Assange's dribbling of stolen emails for weeks to hurt Hillary, plus Comey's two strategic trashings of Hillary.
    Sure you are.

You are a perfect example of why the Democrats lost the election.

It is actually an exciting time to be a Democrat. I have been involved in some grassroots organizing already, and am helping out our local precinct captain with some database issues.

Texas Dem party still has a long way to go in terms of getting its together, IMO, but there are a lot of talented people who are coming on board, and the party is getting ready to field a lot of candidates for the next election, those candidates will form the base of a new batch of people with campaign and hopefully governing experience.

Do you think Beto has a shot to unseat Cruz?

    "A shot?" -yes

Beto has raised a fair amount of money, and the election hasn't begun. Based on some grumblings I have heard in Republican circles, it would also appear very possible that the deeply unpopular Cruz could face a primary challenge. Not enough information to estimate liklihood to a reasonable degree. I think he will face such a challenge.

As noted the state Democratic party is in what can be described as disarray. The GOP in this state is better funded, and better organized. This will be a handicap, but the current political climate is pulling in a lot of people in on the Democratic side, as noted, to address this disparity. This will take time, and certainly not be materially changed in time for the next election. Time frame for that is about 5 years.

That said "a shot" is different than "more likely than not". Cruz will probably survive a primary challenge, and probably defeat O'Rourke.

I currently judge his odds at 25-40%. If I had to value an option, I would stick to the median of that range.

More exciting to be a Republican tbh

The Congressional Map Has A Record-Setting Bias Against Democrats

    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...oward-the-gop/

Even if Democrats were to win every single 2018 House and Senate race for seats representing places that Hillary Clinton won or that Trump won by less than 3 percentage points — a pretty good midterm by historical standards — they could still fall short of the House majority and lose five Senate seats.

This is partly attributable to the nature of House districts: GOP gerrymandering and Democratic voters’ clustering in urban districts has moved the median House seat well to the right of the nation. Part of it is bad timing. Democrats have been cursed by a terrible Senate map in 2018: They must defend 25 of their 48 seats1 while Republicans must defend just eight of their 52.

Hey now, let's be fair. It is exciting trying to climb out of rock bottom. It's like the end of an episode of Intervention - you're excited to see them go to rehab. You know they're going to fail, but you're still excited.

It's like in Rocky when he's down because Apollo got killed or Clubber Lang beat his ass he's at rock bottom and then he makes a come back. Except our comeback montage is going to be a bunch of pussy hat wearing screeching Libs and trannies screeching and stomping out in the streets all over TV in order to help us win back Middle America.

    Should be fun!

It really does annoy me that the trannies have taken over our party. I mean I got no problem with them but they really freak out Middle America and it took us like 5,000 years to get gay rights and for people to accept them. They just need to be patient and not be so annoying their time will come I guess.
