Its ok we still got murray guys..![]()
Close the book on the Spurs miserable offseaon.
Getting the Nets' '18 1st now makes this trade make sense from Cavaliers' perspective. In fact, you could easily argue Celtics overpaid, but Cavaliers get to have their cake (remain '18 East favorites) and eat it too (quality future assets).
Great timing for Cavaliers: Bulls and Pacers got trashed for their star trades and Celtics have long been trashed for inability/refusal to pull the trigger on a significant trade.
Bad news for Spurs is, there's no reason for Irving to want to leave Celtics in 2 years. They check virtually every conceivable box.
Don't know how Spurs fans could complain though; there was never anything they could do about this.
Did not expect them to finally let go of a Brooklyn pick
RC Buford just let his team get cucked twice. At least he has Fatty Mills and Pau
Dubs vs Cavs part 4. Smh. This league is so boring
I think Boston won this trade. Irving is three years younger and they won't have to pay him $30 million a year like they would Thomas next summer. Thomas has bounced around the league a lot and just screams system player to me, like a lot of his success is due to playing for a top tier coach in Stevens. I see no way a lower tier coach like Lue is going to get anywhere near as much out of a limited player like Thomas. That's not the kind of player I want to be maxing out, especially at 5'9". Small point guards like Thomas age horribly too. Look as Isiah Thomas, Kevin Johnson, Allen Iverson. I would not want to pay that guy a five year max deal next summer, but that's what they'd have to do to keep him. Instead they got a better player who is younger and should age a lot better. I'd be much more comfortable maxing a three year younger Irving on a five year deal in summer after next when his game is dependent more on elite ballhandling rather than speed, and his size is much better.
surpised they traded him to boston who is or was already a contender
not sure this makes boston that much better
Thomas was not a bad point guard
short
read bb post Thomas is not a max player though
Spurs had no way of ever matching an asset like the Brooklyn first without trading Kawhi. So deal was impossible.
Spurs are trash, bring Tim Duncan back.
Lebron and Kawhi are going to be so good in LA. Can't wait
This. I'm sure RC did his best, but he just didn't have the pieces to compete with Boston's offer.
Good deal for Cleveland. They wouldn't have gotten a better deal. That's as good as they were hoping to get. Boston probably had to increase their offers to beat Phoenix.
Still, Cleveland did about as well as they possibly could. Thomas, Crowder, plus the Brooklyn pick just murders the best Phoenix could offer: namely, Bledsoe, Jackson, and crap.
Not that we ever had a chance at getting Irving but does this news along with losing out to CP3 make this the worst offseason in the PATFO era in terms of hopes and expectations?
Nah, 03 was worse when they were targeting Jason Kidd and Jermaine O'Neal and ended up signing Rasho Nesterovic to a 6 year deal instead.
Can't hate on Spurs front office. You can't acquire assets by winning 50+ games every year. When they have scored on a late round pick, they've traded them for better players (Hill for Kawhi; Tiago corpse for LMA). Their only fault was not robbing Billy King before Ainge did.
You mean because we lost scrub Dedmon and replaced Simmons with Rudy Gay? And other than that retained a WCF team? I'm disappointed too, but the sky's not falling.
The "hey we acquired Richard Jefferson, now we're set" offseason turned out to be the most disappointing. We just didn't know it yet.![]()
But Rasho>Joffrey and Brandon Paul
If posters expected RC Buford's awkward ass to be a deal closer when it comes to superstars, you've watched the wrong team.
$98,000,000 to Patty Mills and Pau Gasol, signing a 31yr old cancer with no Achilles, and getting the wrong Paul is a typical RC Drunkford offseason
How about all the RJ years?
Wow, Boston just got fleeced. All the Cavs gave up was Irving and they got a pick and deeper. Cavs Finals bound again assuming no injurys occur.
