The poorest 20% pay the lowest taxes, and the richest 20% pay the most taxes.

People should not be getting tax refunds - that's a free loan to Uncle Sam. They should aim to owe Uncle Sam whatever is right below paying a penalty.
And they should still be paying more, especially 1 million per year and over earners. Conservatives seem not to understand the proportional argument and think citing the fact that the wealthy already pay the majority of taxes somehow absolves them of everything. Here's what we mean by the proportional argument. A single filer making 85K per year pays 24% in federal taxes. A single filer making 1 million dollars per year pays 37%. So the million dollar earner only pays 50% more in taxes despite making 12 times as much. Oh, here's where the bootstrap and wealth creation arguments come in. First of all, it's impossible to quantify how "hard and smart" each respective person has worked for their money. Secondly, wealth doesn't trickle down nor "create jobs." Been proven ad nauseum.

I'd be all for the rich keeping more of their money if: We cut our bloated defense spending to the bare minimum. Tighten up regulations on health care, setting price caps for medicine and services (fun fact: we throw more tax dollars at health care than any other country, yet don't have universal health care because the profit model of our system encourages practices like over-treating minor ailments to rack up the bill or arbitrarily charging ludicrous prices for drugs and services. Private insurers can then raise premiums, further enriching themselves, while the tax-payer subsidizes the cost of little old granny on Medicare getting "billed" 2500.00 for a new portable oxygen setup that was made for 20.00 in China).

Netflix made a record $845 million, paid ZERO in taxes, and reported a $22 million rebate

Republicans and other conservative economic scam artists like to remind us all that in saving all of that tax money, and bulging with more profits,

companies like Netflix will not only build out their infrastructure,

they will pass on that savings to the consumer!
The service’s most popular plan will increase from $11 to $13 per month for HD streaming.

Netflix’s most expensive plan, which offers 4K content and up to four simultaneous streams on different devices, will increase from $14 to $16.

And the service’s basic plan, which doesn’t offer HD, will raise from $8 to $9.

Just saw this. What in the ????!

I haven't filed yet but I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about this tax cut only benefiting the wealthy.

Can this law be repealed? It's only going to get worse next year.

GE Jack Welch fired 1000s of engineers, but had 1000 people in GE tax dept, evading/avoiding taxes, while Welch pushed hard to expand GE Capital (wall st casino). Like NF, GE often paid no taxes and got huge refunds, even when it was a major company

GE is ed now, and Welch is adored as some kind of Capitalist demi-god.

    Taxing Waters Rising.

So off to the local greasy spoon I went.

The place was packed with guys like me 40+ white working class/farmers,

    hey it’s rural Wisconsin, and

they were all ing about one thing. Taxes.

It wasn’t the quietly disgruntled sort of mildly irritated ing.

It was a seething sort of muted rage that comes from people who are seriously pissed and

are looking for someone to blame kind of ing.

Then ol’ Chuck Grassley appears on the TV pontificating about taxes. Ho Boy.

    Spark meet gasoline.

Even the owner and waitresses lost their .

I think “Bald faced ing liar” was the mildest term I heard used and that was a waitress.

Everyone and I do mean every single person in that establishment started

comparing just what they had to cough up in taxes or

just how small their return was going to be if they got one compared to last years.

People were going to be short 5k minimum on their refunds.

Others were in the hole to the IRS up to 12k.

    Vacations were being canceled.

Repairs and purchases are being postponed.

Vehicles are not going to be purchased.

Then the farmers started ing about who they were going to sell soybeans to.

What should they plant? Corn? Soybeans? It’s time to order seed you know? How can I make a profit if I can’t sell what I grow?

Is this China going to be sorted out soon?

Who gives a about a border wall I need ing laborers.

Does that fat orange bas really know what the he’s doing?

50% of these people voted for Trump, Walker and Duffy.

Now granted there were some MAGA hat wearing folks in there and

a couple spouted off about staying the course and talking points.

My did that go over well. Not.

    Long story short

they eventually brought up her e-mails. Whoopsie.

An older farmer who could probably buy the place stood up and said his piece.

“You voted for republicans in 2016 because you were angry

about a black man being president for eight years and

there was no damned way you were going to have a woman,

let alone that woman be president.

    You got what you wanted.

It wasn’t just that bag Trump.

    It was

republicans in the House of Representatives and

    republicans in the Senate

that drafted these tax laws you’re all cryin’ about.

You’re stupid. You never learned nothing.

    You don’t look at history.

Republicans ALWAYS do what really rich people tell’em to.

It ain’t about s, blacks, Jesus, God, her emails, abortions, guns, or any of that other they holler about.

Religious freedom don’t need no special laws it’s right there in that cons ution they keep spittin’ on.

    It’s about the money.

It’s about how they can take your money and give it to people who flat don’t ing need it.

All of you need to grow up and take responsibility for your damned government.

2018 was a damned fine year.

Democrats in charge of congress again.”

Then Mr. MAGA Major bigmouth just had to say it

“ What about that Pelosi and

all them ****** women in congress? They’re going to wreck it!”

    Farmer:

“Son you’d best be grateful that Pelosi is a mean ol’ and those women are serious about government.

    They’re the ones

going to save your stupid ass from yourself.

How you going to cover that tax bill you owe Bill?

You need loan? Maybe next year this time we’ll have us a real honest set of tax laws.

Then again maybe you like paying this much in taxes every year? No? Thought not.”

    Exit the farmer. A badass-first-class-taking-no- -from-anyone farmer.

It got real quiet for about 30 seconds as the MAN paid his tab and left.

Then a new kind of hum started building in the place.

the kind that made me grin and

    made the MAGA boys nervous.

And to think what that farmer would have said about Mueller?

Now there, yes there is something I’d like to have a sit down and listen to.

Maybe I can have that after I go see him about what he’ll be asking for half a beef.

Thanks To GOP Tax Cut, Bank Profits Rose $28.8 Billion In 2018

Isadora Bielsky was recently brought to tears when she learned that, rather than getting a refund,

    she
owed $8,000 in taxes this year, thanks to the GOP tax scam.

Banks saw their profits soar by more than $70 billion over 2017 levels, but the

$28.8 billion was solely because of goodies and kickbacks Republicans inserted into the tax bill,

which passed Congress in late 2017 without a single vote from a Democrat.

Amazon made $11.2 billion profit, but rather than pay any taxes, they
filed for a $129 million refund.

Other corporations like Goodyear, Netflix, and U.S. Steel each made hundreds of millions of dollars in profits, and

    each is seeking a refund.

Trump and his congressional allies slashed the corporate rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, and kept plenty of loopholes to further reduce corporate burdens.

Bielsky has a Ph.D. in neuroscience, and her husband is a doctor.

They went to the IRS website to make sure their withholdings were correct.

“If we can’t figure this out, and

we can’t rely on the IRS and their calculators to give us the right information,

what are we supposed to do?”

people seem to think that the amount of their tax refund reflects the amount of tax they've paid throughout the year. just because your refund is less doesnt mean you paid more over the course of the year. i owed money this year for the first time... but that doesnt mean trump raised my taxes

Anecdotal, but the SALT cap is gonna out the few k the tax plan “saved” me. And that doesn’t even get into the other .

My recollection was that the plan was going to over anyone who wasn’t a multi-millionaire real estate investor rather quickly

    I'm getting back 6k.

But, I changed my withholdings to zero.

You didn't get screwed, you just had slightly larger paychecks throughout the year.

Ideally, I like to have zero refund. So, next year, I'll probably change my withholdings to 3 or 4 in early October.

I wound up owing for the first time ever.
first time it happened to me was 1995. I made less than the year before and owed instead of getting a refund.

Made me think hard about the advice of my friend in the IRS. He said: don't ever file, that way you're not in the system, but it was already too late.

Average tax refunds fall for third straight week; down 17 percent

Unlike 2016, Trump will have to run on his record.

People will remember this . Bad policy, executed poorly. The Republican party in a nuts .

It is funny seeing them try to spin this massive tax giveaway to the rich as anything other than organized grift on the part of the swamp monsters running this administration.

Talk about playing into the hands of the Democrats.

Nope. The refund is just a metric of how close you got to estimating your ultimate tax bill. (expected-actual) in a perfect world.

That is why this own goal is so funny. The rollout sucked monkey balls, and failed to hammer home "you need to do more withholding you idiot".

People may end up with a bit more money overall, but will be hit with some cash flow crunches.
