    Lost fans thought it was
Meh. Lost had it's issues but the show ended how it began. It was always a character driven show.

I didn't mind the ery that insued with the monster or time traveling because at the end of the day, the show did a great job with fleshing out the characters and showing what made them tick from beginning to end.

I also had issues with how The Leftovers ended. I wasn't happy with the ending for like a couple of months after it ended but then I rewatched it a couple of times and it made sense to me that the questions didn't really matter.

I still don’t get the Mary Sue complaints when this series had untrained Luke take down a ing Death Star and 8 year old Anakin singlehandedly win a starship battle.

The protagonists got progressively more Mary Suey IMO.

Darrins one gripe about this movie is the fact that there is a young black man as a main character in these movies.
    This is a lie.

We went and saw this again....this time I was far more critical of the film as the “new Star Wars” feelings have subsided.....honestly, I still liked it. It had a goal of shifting the focus and to establish the new generation while slowly getting rid of the old and they succeeded. Were there some silly parts, yes of course (and honestly a bit creepy that they faked out the audience with a potential death of someone we all know died in reality), but overall the movie served the purpose of bridging a gap between episode 7 and 9 (I assume). I firmly believe the rabid complaints are a bit over the top though because they seem to be focused on what was unrealistic.....in a movie about spaceships and religious ninjas....of course is going to be unrealistic....they’ve all been that way. I have no doubt episode 9 will be great.

And I know that 23 year old super fans hated it because it was so different but I firmly believe that adults in the age range of 20-30 may be the most spoiled, en led, and whiny group of people that have ever graced the planet, so their opinions aren’t really valid anyway....plus for the most part they don’t have any money so no movie studio really gives a about this demographic (which coincidentally is the same group that dominates internet discussions) They make baby boomers seem responsible and down to earth.

And finally, my kids loved it....and I know this gonna come as a shock to some, but that’s who these movies are ultimately made for at the end of the day.

Honestly part of the reason I went again was because I read this thread and you made good points....but then I remembered that it’s a movie about the most far fetched ever, so I got over it.

One of my main questions is, if you're John Q Planet, are you really that bad off with the First Order running things?

I've yet to see anyone really complain other than about 200 rebels

It's a great point. The worst we've seen is in Rogue One and Battlefront II (the awful version) where the Empire was willing to blow up their own planets. That would definitely suck. But an issue with the old EU was that it went through a ton of problems with the Republic, so it's obvious that they would even be better. I feel like the average person doesn't care which of the two rules them until/unless they have to interact with the government.

I thought that was kinda the point in TLJ. Other planets are profiting from the First Order, so they don’t notice or care that a tyrranical group is trying to control the galaxy.

I also think it's more than that, though. The FO wants to "control" the galaxy. But is their control particularly bad? They don't do enough to explain why a dictatorship is the worse alternative. It could be Singapore-like afterwards.

I already said that a couple of posts up. The Rebels were rebelling before the Empire had the capacity to do that. So that wasn't it. Also, blowing up planets seems to be the SW equivalent of dropping A-bombs. Like sure it's bad. But is it irredeemably evil?

republic was functioning just fine in a democratic manner... empire rules by military dictatorship/fear

and yeah i'd call it irredeemably evil to blow up a planet (pretty sure they blew up a whole solar system in TFA)

Seems counter productive to blow up planets you want to take control of.

No it wasn't. It was so ty that a) they had to rely on telekinetic space priests to handle all of their problems and b) it got taken over by a chancellor with a really stupid plan. It's as I said in that post you didn't read. The EU went through great lengths to show us how awful the Republic was (and had been for thousands of years). Even in this new trilogy the new Republic was so ty that it fell to a ing neo-nazi regime in like two seconds. It's an awful unsustainable type of government (in the SW universe at least). No one liked it.

yeah i'd call it irredeemably evil to blow up a planet
Why? There are billions of them. Even if that is a no-go in your book, there's a massive difference between living in a civilization that is willing to blow up opposing planets and one that is willing to blow up you. That's why the planets in Rogue One and Battlefront II were in there. A random schmuck on Dantooine or whatever isn't going to care if some place a billion miles away was vaporized. They'll care about things like taxes and customs and other laws.

If blowing up a planet is not evil in your book, then you probably need a new book.
