But there aren't a lot of higher caliber teams.
Theis happy that MVParker is back, helped him go Super Saiyan 3. I am curious as to what comes next...50???
But there aren't a lot of higher caliber teams.
That's the only reason I am hyped... it's not about them in isolation but the fact that the team will be so much better when they get Kawhi back.
Lamarcus is in a good groove and the young guys have gotten much needed experience and earned Pop's trust and that Pau Gasol also had opportunity to develop chemistry with Lamarcus, which was really poor last season, etc. There are many ways in which the team is improved without any roster changes. Internal development, adjustments to sets, chemistry, etc.
They are missing however one good quality big for depth. I don't think Joff has been good and despite pulling for Davis, he has lost Pop's trust that he had earned from last season. It's appalling how the two of Joff and Davis have fallen off, but one feels like if Pau or LMA needs a rest game, that is a going to be a guaranteed scheduled loss. The team needs 1 backup center and neither Joff or Davis are one. A trade perhaps?
nah i'm gonna enjoy this. Half the board thought we were a lottery team without Kawhi, and how we had no talent and he was alone and PATFO should be ashamed and we hope Kawhi leaves. I'm the only one on the entire board that said we were a top 3 team in the West without Kawhi, even got called out on it. This feels good tbh. We've had some big wins too. Every win without Kawhi is worth more than face value and shouldn't be seen as "we should have won". This team is missing an MVP-DPOY level talent and we are near the top of the league and we are still playing just ok with lots to improve on. Every win without him is one for the gipper so to speak. And when he comes back, it's exciting to think we have a shot for best record in the league. This team is le contender.
The thing is we probably aren't a top 3 team on the west without Kawhi. Heck, we may not even be a top 4 or top 5 team (Minnesota and Blazers probably beat us on a playoffs series sans Kawhi). Spurs are just taking care of business with this easy schedule they have had so far.
So yeah, I would ease up a bit with the exaggerated enthusiasm. Things are going just according to plan, not better nor worse.
I didn't say playoffs in my original post, i said season. I know we don't have a chance without him in the playoffs, and by that I mean to go far. And say what you want about easy schedule, Kawhi makes us elite and takes us to the next level. Without him we're just a regular team, so in that aspect every team has a chance against us any given night. We are winning games. Easy schedule or not all that does is take away from what they have accomplished which is remarkable. Spurs strength of schedule is 25th right now and guess who's underneath them, the Cavs. We have the same record as them and they have LeBron.
But c'mon, why side with the trolls when most of them thought we'd be terrible and now we are just doing what we should be doing? It's laughable.
your moderate approach is not reflective of the sentiment around here that things would go south real quick. taking care of business can't be taken for granted either. There was once a time this team was in a 4 game losing skid not playing well. Nobody would have said they would be doing this well except raybies and brooklynspurfan and a few other spurfan postiive faithfuls (I don't even claim that for myself, I waver inn opinons a lot.)
Not with the way Mills has been shooting, not with Manu being 40 and TO the ball 3 or 4 times in a record minutes, not with Pop relying on rooks, not with Murray awful summer league and acknowledgemnt that he can't shoot, now with Pop relying on 2nd season guys that had not played well last season, not with Kyle playing something like the third most minutes in the team or something, not with the Lamarsha, Lasoftus, Gasoft the soft towers crew to anchor the team (per the troll crew), not with Rudy with that achilles in unknown status. ask all the hate crews here how this was going to go just 2o games ago if they knew Kawhi (and Tony) wouldn't be back until lets say mid december and you get a different story from where the team is at.
I am going to enjoy this too like raybies said.
spurfan is spoiled.

Well put. That's kind of where I was going and you laid it all out.
I'm not siding with the trolls. I'm just applying perspective. I don't share this opinion that you have to be an insufferable homer to fight back the insufferable cliff jumpers, tbh.
And no, I'm not talking about playoffs only either. I can assure you that if Kawhi were to miss the entire regular season the Spurs wouldn't finish top 3 in the West. We are there now only because, thankfully, we have had a pretty favorable schedule so far that has allowed us to stay afloat in Kawhi's absence.
Mmh, yes they would. In fact, most of the people did. Your problem is focusing too much on the negative folks, tbh.
I'll have to disagree on that and hope we don't have to find out.
as for being a homer, I guess that's what a fan is called nowadays... ...like being a fan is some sophisticated thing.
...might be. not to be hard on you as you are quite moderate... but let the guys enjoy this.
I don't take any of these wins for granted personally. It's really easy for any of these games to get away. Last game in the 2nd Q when Pop got thrown out, team was in disarray. Look at the magic they were in a 9 game losing streak. This team once lost 4 in a row and they had no one else besides Lamarcus playing well at the time. It's almost like I have to travel back in time and pull up Patty's horrible chucking, Manu TO the ball, Kyle missing shots left and right (he's increased his efficiency lately but he didn't start shooting well either), Pau looking passive passing on shots. He once had a 0-6 FG came out with 0 points just this season. Not even Kyle has had a 0 pt or fg game. He wasn't playing well. There is a lot that was in question. It would have been really easy to give up when they were down 23 pts against OKC with no real firepower or playmakers to come back from that game. Not a tirade on Patty but he had been really bad, couldn't run a single PnR to get LmA a quality shot. And i think it was Manu who had like 5 TO that game... Danny had a 6 TO game against the bucks... that was a close winnable game. If they had Tony for 15 minutes maybe they win it, anyways. it's been a short journey but they are better than how they started and still have room to grow.
So just because I don't suck up to every little thing the Spurs do I'm not a fan? How old are you, 12?
YES 12 IN MY HEART! BUT FOR MY SPURS!
this was funny. made me laugh pour up a cold brew.
I'm enjoying this winning streak as much as the next guy. I'm just putting things into perspective so that when the schedule starts to even out, folks don't get discouraged or start to freak out.
If the "positive guys" start to bump their chests now after a couple of wins, the "negative guys" will do the same after a couple of losses. And they create a never ending cycle of calling each other out. Both are equally toxic, tbh. The best thing to do is to stay level and with a long vision mentality.
That's some wise words. But trolls are not gonna stop trolling tbh. So then what, let the loud mouths run the show? Can't have that. There's some good fans here.
You keep ting on players.
And can't admit when those two play well.
Love watching forum member switching from their troll agendas to now insightful posters
Love ya ST <3
Marc Gasol couldn't even outscore Tony Parker on his second game back with heavy minutes restrictions after "rooking" their head coach![]()
I don't think this win streak is jaw dropping or anything personally. They've played OK basketball, and have looked pretty out of sync at times, which isn't totally uncommon for this time of year. But like I said earlier, they're sitting at #3 ,1 game in the L column behind the Warriors, and haven't had 2 starters, 1 being an MVP level player. While they obviously haven't peaked or played their best ball, all things considered, they aren't in terrible shape. The 2 losses that annoyed me the most were Indy/Milwaukee cause they were both very winnable, but those losses will happen.
I'm also not going to consider our team done or trash if they drop some winnable games, or blow a lead, because I do know it's a marathon, not a sprint and those things tend to happen to all teams. I think many people on here look at each game as a must win and consider the world ending if they don't win every game. I think those type of posters kind of spoil it for everyone who want to have legit discussions on the state of teams performance overall.
You can both enjoy the season and temper expectations at the same time.
