    So what?

people still dont understand we rich as and we have never spent any of it on regular people…

we were even richer as before the super rich got most of it in tax breaks, corporate welfare, tax cheating,

all which came from lobbyists and the GOP working for the super rich

now SOME of the loot goes to regular taxpayers and everyone clutches their pearlz!

worse yet- almost everyone here is NOT on the uber rich team - maybe cosmic kunt unless he is exaggerating

so chill the out and let the usa spend a fraction on real people for once

Lawmakers, including Nancy Pelosi, have argued that Biden’s executive order, is uncons utional and goes outside the rights of the executive branch.

Congress, not the president, is the only body that can cancel student debt, Pelosi said in July of 2021, arguing that “the president can’t do it.”

“Not everybody realizes that, but the president can only postpone, delay but not forgive” student loans, she added.

The Department of Education came to the same decision, arguing that the executive branch “does not have the statutory authority to cancel, compromise, discharge, or forgive, on a blanket or mass basis, principal balances of student loans, and/or to materially modify the repayment amounts or terms thereof.”

50 years of state disinvestment in education has raised costs beyond the ability of of borrowers to repay and put two generations of the middle-class on a debt treadmill.

This is a small step in the right direction.

its not uncommon for the state to subsidize what it believes are "good decisions" that they want to incentivize. ie giving tax benefits to married couples. they think people getting married is a good things (helps financial stability, lowers chances of people being in abject poverty and thus less dependent on state on long run, less likely to commit crime, etc). they see getting a college education as being a general positive and accomplishing those same ends

the big sleeper is also the lack of accrual of interest as long as timely payments are being made

That's the kind of thing Biden should've promised in the first place; not the perceived privilege giveaway.
