First it was the solar panels... a lot of which are made in china.

Now it is steel and almuminum... also made in china

China could let ONE go, but the steel tariffs, not so much. That one WILL hurt Chinese workers, and drive up Chinese government costs as they subsidize the out of steel.

They will need to save face now. This should be interesting.

Monumentally stupid. Trump is tripping off the deep end.
American workers will see only a small portion of the massive windfall of money going to companies following corporate tax reform, according to a new analysis from JUST Capital.

With the corporate tax rate dropping from 35% to 21%, many companies have announced plans to hike wages and give out bonuses. Yahoo Finance has compiled a list of names. This year, JUST Capital estimates that the Russell 1000 companies it follows will see $150 billion in tax-related income.

Of the 90 of the largest publicly-traded companies that have announced plans an average of 6% of that tax-related income will go to workers, according to JUST Capital’s analysis.

“Perhaps most concerning is if we assume that all proceeds not already earmarked for other uses actually flow to management and shareholders in the form of stock buybacks or direct distributions, then 58% of corporate spending will be running counter to the public’s definition of what is just,” the report said.

Monumentally stupid. Trump is tripping off the deep end.
Unfortunately, the current state of the White House already reflects the most obvious fix Mr. Trump could make: bringing in a more empowered and competent chief of staff. By most accounts, John Kelly had succeeded in improving the information flow, removing some of the key factional actors and reducing the leaks. A more experienced White House hand could probably do better, but at this point it isn’t clear Mr. Trump could attract that sort of A-list talent.

If the president is unwilling or incapable of getting control of the White House, he will continue to find his reputation lacking and his ability to influence the executive branch minimal. That may be enough for Mr. Trump, who often seems driven by anything but the desire to influence policy.

But a weak president is not something to cheer. Set aside the dangers of a weak leader engaging in risky foreign policy to try to improve his public standing. The modern executive branch relies on competent leadership; in its absence, it inevitably begins to decay.

Trudeau tried to get tariffs lowered, got them raised instead. He might have tried to get the wording changed from chickpeas to personpeas.
