The police are lying about the prosecutor being there, which is their excuse for the end run around the DA executing the warrants.

The commonwealth's attorney's office released a statement Tuesday explaining that a "police officer swearing information, under oath, to a magistrate to obtain warrants is the traditional process frequently utilized by the Portsmouth Police within the Portsmouth Police Department."


However, the office said that it still has not received any investigative results from Portsmouth Police that are required to make a decision on whether to formally indict any of the 14 individuals charged Monday.

This stinks to high heaven, it probably smells like roses to you, but it's not misfiled.

Kevin McGee brought felony charges against Lucas and 13 others for “injury to” a Confederate monument. The charges came Monday, a day before Lucas and other state lawmakers went to Richmond for a special session to consider police reforms for which she’s been an outspoken advocate.

State police investigated the incident that led to the injury but wrapped up their investigation in late July without pressing any charges. Weeks later, in an extraordinary turn of events that the city manager and Portsmouth’s chief prosecutor said caught them by surprise, city police went to court Monday to file charges against the 14 people.
