illmatic is far better tbh
I already said earlier in the thread that the current era of hip hop might be worse than the 98-04ish era.
That era of rock-rap, Dirty South, and pop-rap is absolute trash no matter how you spin it. There was good stuff, like there is in every era, but overall it was a cultural valley, as is 2018.
illmatic is far better tbh
do people really use Grammys as a barometer for anything anymore?
Macklemore won a rap Grammy over Kendrick, let that sink in.
Eminem has the benefit of "crossover appeal" being that he is more likely to get play on non hip-hop stations as well as hip-hop stations.
Jay-Z and NaS never really had that, that doesn't mean that they are worse rappers just because they sold fewer than Eminem.
Nas
Jay-Z
2pac
André 3000
Eminem
Ice Cube
Kanye
Biggie
LL Cool J
Are we still pretended like NaS isn't better than Biggie? NaS' first two albums are better than his.
Ice Cube made NWA, once he left they were just another group. Ice Cube had a run of 3 straight classics (not including Straight Outta Compton) he is criminally underrated.
Not really, Jays style on Reasonable doubt is definitely different from L's. L may be the greatest punchline rapper ever but that has never been Jay-z's style.
Jay's style hasn't been remotely similar to Big L's since the early '90s, tbh. Even by the time Reasonable Doubt came out, he had already changed his flow.
Reasonable Doubt wasn't better than The Blueprint or The Black Album, imo.
What do you gots think now that the new Eminem has been out for a while?
He's always been overrated, but now he's just an embarrassment..
Even the tracks he put out when he was nice have aged poorly..
