The point is that he's actually not a social conservative, nor he lives his life as a social conservative, he's made that readily public and available. He just says and does because that's convenient for him, and that's the conduit to power.
Remember before the elections the whole 'moral litmus test' for social conservatism? How Teddy was the moral compass for conservatism? Let's go further back, remember that Romney didn't win the election because he wasn't conservative enough? The whole thing is a big charade.
Trump is way, way less socially conservative than either (we could make the argument he's just as conservative on economics as both). The notion that people will largely look at your social conservative creds to elect you was proven to be a complete fallacy.
Obviously, the man now wants to please his crowd, and having a Congress ready and willing, he's going to pass every conservative dream that's been waiting in the wings forever, including the southern socially awkward agenda (which will eventually be overturned in time, wherever possible).
That said, now the cat is out of the bag, and he's not really any less of a flat out liar than your average politico, so the question is how people will eventually react to that, vis a vis, whoever the Democrats put in front of him.
