I would have liked to have seen one veteran PG stay with the 3rd string. The win was almost blown because a lack of cohesion, skill and veteran presence.
I am pulling for Jaron Blossomgame and he showed whom hustle in limited minutes. I did not see anything from Pondexter at all, not sure why he played before Blossomgame. Eubanks, not sure why a two way was given to him when guys such as Deyona Davis are around and Amidah was cut. The 3rd strings guys just dont seem to have much upside. Okaro White is a tweener, and took a 3pt shot and seemed redundant with Cunningham.

It's the first pre-season game of the year after 3or 4 practices. The game was almost blown due to a lack of players who will be on a NBA roster mid October. Heck someof those will not be on a roster in a week.

Not worried about blowing the game because of playing camp invites.

This is just first game, you'll see players being cut and the original order (pondexter over blossomgame) changing.

The Heat commentators where in all praise for the two-way contract (Jones Jr.).

I was so impressed with Gay, his rebounding, shooting the 3’s, his athleticism. I hope he keeps hitting those 3’s. Dang he answered that mid-range questions quick. Murray has Kawhi-ish suffocating defense and much confidence in his strokes. But I can’t help comparing him to White who has the most natural PG skills. White’s athleticism is deceptive with his rebounding and a block on that center. Why he reminds me of Jason Kidd? I don’t know. They are the same height, But maybe more of his demeanor, savviness? I feel more secure when he has the rock than Murray and Mills. He just belongs out there and I’m excited for him and what more he could bring. Please stop with Mills at PG. I love Mills, but he is a a shooting guard and streak scorer, that’s it. Any minutes for Forbes should go to Walker development period. Poeltl will start sooner than later. That kid at 22 is a bruiser. He might not have the passing skills of Gasol, but I think he got us extra possessions because of his reboundings and hassle plays. If LMA will be hitting those outside shots, then Poeltl needs to anchor the middle. While he looks like a big white dude to dunk on, and I know he would get his Blake-Posterizing-Gasol moments, a lot of players would find out wrong because this dude will not back down. Demar is still finding his way with the offense, but be selfish and find your shots. Spurs need him to be an alpha and not defer too much. Sometimes it’s necessary to be a have mamba moment. LMA will find his rythmn. And having more scorers should open his shots more. I’m pleasantly surprised to see Metu. But I admit he is going to Austin. All in all, I like what Pops/RJ did. Nothing sexy but Spurs will be competing. GSG

My take -- the Spurs have a very good overall personnel level.

However, the starters are slow and, worse, don't move the ball well. Bluntly put, after all those years of being falsely accused, the Spurs (starters at least) actually are boring.

The good news, they probably can learn to move the ball better (they'll never get quicker of course).

The better news, this is an interesting team with many diamonds in the rough -- that's a reallly good situation.

Most urgently, the Spurs need to find a leader -- then they can find an iden y (and it had better be based on ball movement and old school Spurs basketball).

    Just prove it!

Tony Parker didn't have a lot of athleticism and he's a future HOF. Very promising. I hope he learned a lot from Parker from last year..

I understand it's kinda f'd up to say and I hope that it's nothing too serious, happy he got paid, etc....

But the only way this season has any chance of being remotely entertaining/fun/building for the future, etc. is if Forbes suffers an injury paving the way for White or Lonnie....

Pop is gonna find a way to give probably my most hated player in the last 10 years at least 20mins a night unless he doesn't have that option tbh...

The 1st game is exactly when you want to see the camp invites, to see who is a player and who is not. You want to see them with a established rotational player to keep the team organized. The 4th quarter was a sloppy mess.

I think Poetl has me the most excited. I know we'll have a very good player in Demar, and I think he's going to improve defensively as time goes on. Poetl can be a game changer. A young, mobile center who can run, defend and rebound is a pretty big find.

He doesn't have the jumping out of the gym athleticism of Walker or the defensive talent of Murray, but he definitely is a lot more basketball skills that these other two.

BTW, did you notice that he blocked as shot on one of Miami's centers? His lack of athleticism and length is deceptive. He's been known to block a lot of shots.
i think you are painting with too broad a brush to say Tony didn't have a lot of athleticism. He was a blur when he entered the league - fastest thing in sneakers I had ever seen. White is just a completely different type of player. I like his calmness and his court vision/awareness. I really have high hopes for him.

Somethin about this team..feels like everyone is pulling for each other to do good like genuinely. Reminds me of the defense in the NFL when they make a pick they all get together and pose in front of the camera. I think that chemistry bodes well for us. It's like we want to win for each other.

Parker was pretty quick, but he took advantage by being deceptive with his speed. There were times when Parker attempted to dunk, and even missed them when being completely alone.

White did start to play good in the second half. I hope he gets minutes instead of Forbes if he'll play like he did yesterday. Bertans didn't surprise me on offense cause we all know he can shoot, but he did great on defense and with his lenght he will cause problems for the other team. Same goes for Poetl who has shown he is a great rebounder. And if Rudy will stay 100% we can expect one of his better season.

Tony Parker was very athletic. Quick and fast and good body control in the lane. . That was how he got to the bucket on his drives. He was clocked as the fastest player with the ball.

Poetl will be a great addition the team. He will be a legit factor as he continues to develop his offensive game. His offensive game seemed non existant outside a layup. But grabbing 10 rebounds in 20 minutes, when battling Hassan Whiteside is a win! I see a great 2 man game in the second unit with Poetl and White.

Athleticism is not defined by vertical leap and dunking alone. Parker had blinding speed and quickness with the ball in his hands. His control on spin moves was incredible. His loss of that step is why he is no longer playable.

It's exciting that the NBA season is back, although it's preseason, and with all the new additions to the team, I'm sure Spurs fans are intrested to see how this "new era" of Spurs basketball his going to pan out. On one hand, meh, it's preseason, so Pop's lineup tinkering has a chance for an early start, which will continue into the regular season, tbh. On the other hand, with the new additions, the players have to build chemistry together while getting into a BB rhythm, which calls for a good extensive playing time. There was some rust; some jitters, I'm sure from some of the players such as DeRozan, but as this team begins to play more together, I think that the chemistry will come around as well & this team will have playoff promise. I agree with most of the posters here who are preferring DW over Forbes. Heck, I would even say, as far as a PG, White is probably the best on the roster over DJ, although DJ is more athletic & has length over DW, but White, to me, seems a bit more polished. DW had a bad first half outing, but he seemed to get his act together in the second half & balled his gluteus maximus off! Hopfully DW will prove to Pop & the coaching staff, that he should at least be the sixth man off the bench or moreso, at least be DJ's back-up PG over Mills, but that's well wishing, I'm sure. Poetl (JP) for his first outting, sure looked good! Decent rim protection & rebounding! But I think that once he get's acclimated and aquainted with the team, he will be a great pick-up steal! It will be interesting to see if he will take over the 5 spot in the starting lineup, especially with certain matchup situations. I think that for DD, it would be good for him for P & R schemes due to their prior playing time in Toronto. I'm also rooting for Blossomgame as well to win that 2-way contract. He had some positive moments in yesterday's game, too, so hopfully, he can get a chance to prove himself throughout the preseason that he belongs on this team. Metu also had some good moments, but I recall that there was a bone headed move that coud have cost us the game there at the game closing, but hopfully with experience, he too will grow & become an important bench role player, but I can also see him down in Austin for a great deal of the season. GSG!!!

I was suprised the Spurs won when I checked the box score after randomly reading through parts of this thread ,I would have thought we were being thrashed by a bunch. The Heat played 13 players while the Spurs played 18 and 17 scored. Looks like a lot of players got looks which is what should be happening now. And we won.
