This would be like a city giving the headquarters of Blockbuster Video a healthy tax break to locate there in 1994, with Blockbuster - basing their projections off their current revenue, market share, growth - selling the "tax revenue" that they will generate over the next 25 years as the deal maker. Blockbuster was basically done a decade later.
"But Amazon is different!" We can't predict what the market will look like 10 years from now. A compe or could emerge and slap Amazon's . I'm sure Myspace had a bunch of nice projections that pointed up in 2006.

She still doesn't get it. Even after I posted the links to the town hall meetings the district held about the deal. The residents were against it. They are where the buck stops. To put in terms a conservative can understand, the state and city of New York are like the federal government. The wards/districts within the city are like states, with councilmen acting as defacto governors of their districts. This prevents the city from overreach, just like states rights theoretically prevent federal government overreach.
